The BBC are now far too shitty. I rely instead on Reuters and Aljezeera for news stories.

Reuters only slightly better better than BBC. Aljazeera is flailing around between Qatari propaganda and doing journalism right now but after the first few days they've become mostly normal again

Yeah aljezzera is good for stuff that doesn't touch the gulf states(which excludes the majority of output)

As always reading a variety of sources with a critical eye to identify weasel words and lies by omission especially is the only way to get remotely close to an 'objective truth' through second/third hand reporting

Who would you suggest for more balance these days? My only real limiting factor being that I can only read English.

For news on the Arab World and West Asia I would recommend adding Al Mayadeen English to the mix: https://xcancel.com/MayadeenEnglish

I think your best bet remains Aljazeera and MiddleEastEye which both seem to be ran by Qatar, but remaining aware of their bias.

WSWS is also decent but they're mostly late after the fact and your news is going to be 3 days old.

regime = les gentils
government = les méchants

[–] CommieKhinkali@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 month ago

Im so tired of seeing the word regime. Just say government lil bro or call every country's government a regime as well

Someone who executes people who are good is a murder.

Someone who murders people who are bad are executioners.

I think the distinction here is warranted. The people of Iran aren't being given a free choice of who governs them. The Israelis keep voting for Bibi out of their own free will.

Israel is literally an Apartheid. Half the people in it don't even get to vote.

Israel almost devolved into a civil war because Netanyahu's court cases kept being delayed (and still are to this day)

Israel also just banned Arab parties.

There is a much stronger case to make for Iranian democracy than Israeli

You're describing a democracy. A non democratic government is still a government.

🫵🤣 me when democracy is assassinating any real political opponents

Iran is the healthiest and most participatory democracy in the Middle East if you look at actual facts instead of imperial slop media

The Israelis keep voting for Bibi out of their own free will.

This isn't the gotcha you think it is
