Just stumbled upon https://european-alternatives.cloud/en.

The site is online since 10 February and thus far from offering a large number of alternatives, but seems interesting.

I wish it were an alternative:

  • it doesn't allow contributing
  • the search isn't front and center
  • it's not opendata nor opensource

I wouldn't judge too early as it has just started. This guy asks to open an issue if you find mistakes, and I would assume they are also accepting new proposals. But the site is 12 days old.

I see. Alright, that's really early. I didn't find a place to contribute though. Please tell me the code is on Codeberg?

Good job. However, I fear these directories are popping up like mushrooms, and none of them will end up being comprehensive and up-to-date.

I can remember of:

And now https://european-alternatives.cloud/

This is a very valid point. It would be great knowing that there's a single source for everything related rather than risk efforts being duplicated.

I don't know what makes you think they will end up being not up-to-date nor comprehensive.

Do you think this is bad? What would you suggest instead?

It is not bad per se, and I welcome all contributions. All of these are valuable.

I think the effort might be being duplicated instead of focusing on collaboration.

Love it though. Alternativeto by itself is good too since it supports European alternatives too, but can't hurt to have more options.

Actually it can hurt due to fragmentation and not all of them having complete data sets.

I like that the author has a "Social Media" category on his website that's just empty :D
