You know it!

It was the very first Genesis cart I ever bought.

It's been a while since I've played it on a CRT... I forgot how hard they worked to create a feeling of speed. I forgot about new, fancy games for a few minutes and my mind was transported to a time when graphics couldn't get more real or more awesome.

EDIT: Also, I miss when making something look like chrome was the coolest shit ever (still is).

Soundtrack is a banger. Grass Valler goes way harder than it has any right to.

Absolutely.

I played Pacific Coast as it's one of my least played courses, and the bass blew me away.

That's something I always forget about the Genesis - as good as it sounds in video or emulation, nothing compares to having the sound chip blast your ears directly through some 90s-00s speakers.

Try to get the Batman and Robin game too, some of the best industrial techno I've ever heard. The same composer went on to do several AAA games, too.

Grab yourself Streets of Rage II, your ears will thank you.

SoR2 is in my top 5 games of all time. I've been looking for a physical copy in the wild for a bit now, without much luck.

That and OutRun are probably the 2 I want to hear through official hardware most.

Me and my brother got a megadrive with Sonic, Road Rash and Streets of Rage II at some point in the mid 90s. Gaming never got better.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuck I bet that was awesome. PS1 was already out and it didn't matter. Grab the Dunkaroos and Kool Aid Bursts, it's time to hit the Streets.

Man i had a large CRT that i got for free a few years ago and kept moving it from room to room until i finally just gave it away.

Now i see them listed for $250-300 for "retro gaming" and it's laughable. I've thrown away more CRT tv's than i can count. Also the amount of people that can properly fix a CRT tube are dwindling daily, so hopefully these retro gaming guys start learning CRT tv repair if they want the prices to be that high.

Look into recapping that set. Can probably improve the picture quite a bit pretty cheaply.

Playing a 25 year old game with a 14 year old TV?

[–] eleijeep@piefed.social 12 points 2 months ago (2 children)

How is a 2005 TV 14 years old?

Good point lol I didn't even notice the math

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

That's a weird way to say you got the math completely wrong.

"You got an F on your math test?"

"Sorry, I didn't notice the math."

By not knowing what year it is

(PS. It was intentional)

Yes. What's your point?
