Bob Hoskins hated being in that movie. Granted it was no Brazil or Hook, but I wish he had known how much people enjoyed his Mario.

I enjoyed it because it was all I had growing up. I watched it so much on VHS I picked up very small Easter eggs along the way I never noticed through previous re-watches. The writing did have something to it, but practical limitations can only go so far in a world where Terminator, Aliens, Blade Runner and Predator owned the box office.
I liked the Mario Brothers movie.
I still like it. Rewatched it a year or two ago, annd found that it holds up. I actually and truly like it, for its merits, and not ironically. It’s not the horrible B movie it’s made out to be, it has heart.
I adore it for all its insanity, scene chewing, and vague connections to the actual property. B-movie schlock at its best.
Honestly? This just looks like the goomba I remember. It just looks like if that goomba aged. Thats just elderly goomba.
