Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • Don't come looking for advice, this is not the right community.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.
  • 5. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Language/язык/Sprache
  • This is primarily an English-speaking community. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
  • Comments written in other languages are allowed.
  • The substance of a post should be comprehensible for people who only speak English.
  • Titles and post bodies written in other languages will be allowed, but only as long as the above rule is observed.
  • 6. (NEW!) Regarding public figuresWe all have our opinions, and certain public figures can be divisive. Keep in mind that this is a community for memes and light-hearted fun, not for airing grievances or leveling accusations.
  • Keep discussions polite and free of disparagement.
  • We are never in possession of all of the facts. Defamatory comments will not be tolerated.
  • Discussions that get too heated will be locked and offending comments removed.
  • Β

Please report posts and comments that break these rules!

Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't remove France.

The Rust community on Lemmy had been foreshadowing this all along.

Shoutout to the developers who work on making Linux safer. Adding memory-safe languages to Linux seems like an uphill battle.

It’s such an uphill battle that some people have altogether stopped contributing to Linux. An example is the former Asahi Linux lead developer.

    Come on, you guis, seriously?

    [–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 71 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

    Is there a /c/linuxdadjokes ?

    [–] StellarExtract@lemmy.zip 14 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

    It was replaced by /rust/linuxdadjokes

    [–] alecsargent@lemmy.zip 5 points 3 hours ago

I know it is a joke, but please do not fragment things into oblivion.

    [–] marcos@lemmy.world 22 points 10 hours ago

How dare you say something like that in a Linux focused community?!?

(Oh, and this is a joke, don't read it seriously.)

    [–] Ooops@feddit.org 8 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

We just need to create that one single ultimate community for good linux jokes.

    [–] lugal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Until it splits into c/ubuntudadjokes c/archdadjokes and after that, there is no return

I want an entire instance dedicated to the welcome messages you get from a Slackware terminal.

    [–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 3 points 10 hours ago

But the fragments there aren't the ones they like. So they want theirs in it too.

It's like reinventing rugby as yank football.

    For non technical readers :
the programming language "Rust" is being used more to make new Linux kernels. Traditionally, the main language for that use was the one by the name "c".

Non-technical readers? In my Linux memes community??

    [–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 30 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

They're talking to me. I use Mint. I've never opened the terminal. Just because some of us aren't savvy doesn't mean we aren't at least casually interested. You could totally be joking too, I guess.

    [–] Ephera@lemmy.ml 6 points 7 hours ago

It's a joke, yeah. Well, or rather a meme. This was a real advertisement, before it got memed on pretty hard:

"Pornography? On my computer?" It's more likely than you think. Free PC Check!

    [–] Shipgirlboy@sh.itjust.works 18 points 9 hours ago

It's more likely than you think.

    [–] liquidator@piefed.social 6 points 8 hours ago

Damn that's dry joke. Good one.
