Bills in Washington and New York would require 3D printers to scan and block firearm blueprints.

Or they see the ability to selectively block printability of guns as a first step.

Preventing competing items for commercial products as the second.

These are not unintended consequences. They know perfectly well the effects such laws will have, and want that result.
