I'm an engineer with a graduate degree working in the aerospace industry doing a job only a few thousand people in the world can do, and nothing in aerospace can be done without someone doing my job. I've lived frugally, saved as much as I can, I'm healthy without any major medical expenses. I feel that I'm a functioning, productive member of society. Yet I have little hope of being able to afford a home where I live. I can barely afford to move to a less shitty apartment. My biggest cost outside of the bare necessities over the past few years has been therapy, and I'm constantly worrying about whether I can really afford it. If I'm in such a good position and barely treading water economically, how the fuck is anyone supposed to live? We're barreling toward a cliff and the rich just keep pushing on the gas.

I suspect they only want the hyperproductive/ profitable citizens to live. They don't really care that it doesn't work economically.

The only way to improve labor and salary/wage conditions is to be able to negotiate with the wealth class from an equitable position. One person can be fired and replaced, 30-70% of the staff walking out is likely going to cause the organization to fail as a business within just a couple months.

Miss me with the generational infighting. Its not your parents refusing to pay you appropriately, it's capitalists

Yeah but a lot of bosses are boomers who don't understand / want to realize how expensive life, especially rent and housing, has become and why we therefore need higher wages. Boomers still think cost of living is basically the same as when they were young. So it's the boomers not willing to pay higher wages.

Perhaps some people are out of touch, regardless of whatever arbitrary date they were born. But the response to that shouldn't be infighting among other working class people, it should be conversation that addresses root cause.

Sadly the number of boomers I have met who are ridiculously angry that a "burger flipper" at a fast food joint makes $18 an hour shows me that it truly does lean towards being a generational mindset as well. The true outliers are the more reasonable boomers from my personal interactions but ymmv depending on location. That being said I do totally agree that the root cause is class based but many of those boomers fall into that upper middle class that has been pinned against the lower classes for so long.

Old people being out of touch is a trend that has been happening at least since there was written language. That's no reason to blame them for societal ills when it's the wealth hoarders causing the problems. It is a shame they're so easily manipulated by social media and cable news though.

They've been propagandized. They didn't organically come up with the idea of being upset at fast food workers making a livable wage. Fox News and their ilk told them to be angry about it because wedge issues keep us distracted from the fact the wealthy take a disproportionate of the fruit of our labor

Old Capitalism has contracted rabies. There is only one cure.
