This is what bothers me as well. In HD1, the motivation for each respective war was fairly clear., advanced technology, oppression of slaves and workers, and E710. In HD2, the squids actively kill civillians and the bots make soylent green. The bugs are arguably still an out-of-control E710 farm without "evil" intent, but the rest actually performs visible atrocities. It's too easy.

I think the squids are the most compelling, they were a peaceful, enlightened society that tried to be friendly with humanity, Super Earth chose genocide in the first galactic war and almost completely exterminated them because they weren’t really prepared for war. The remnants are now back and have been twisted from a peaceful society to a society bent on revenge and who commit atrocities of their own.

As far as I know of the current lore, and speaking out of character, terminids are the only fully sympathetic faction - they were reduced to basic animals by being genetically engineered and such, while automatons are plausibly sentient and the Illuminates are definitely sentient, at least as a whole entity.

On one hand I'd like to know the actual capabilities of each of the 4 (currently known) factions, and understand if the atrocities they all commit have a 1% chance of being justified in the eyes of a 4chan user, on the other hand... y'know, explosive hammer.

@Phineaz I’m pretty sure we’re witnessing aggressive retaliation from the bots and squids. In HD1 Super Earth committed genocide trying to exterminate the squids and bots because the squids were an advanced PEACEFUL alien race that SE didn’t have total control over, and the bots (then cyborgs) were a SE experiment that lead to an egalitarian communist society. The bots and squids are fighting back ferociously because what the fuck else do you do when faced with genocide
