it doesn't work. they just want to know how much you expect, to make sure they don't hire ppl who will be constantly disappointed with what they're actually paying.
like if a guy puts 90k and they pay 50k for that job, they probably won't hire him, because he won't be happy and could even get angry and sabotage the company or sell out their secrets.
