You want to bring down car insurance premiums? I'll tell you how to do it.

πŸ”΅ Allow insurance companies to use speed camera data.

πŸ”΅ Ban SUVs. Ban Luxury cars. They are a lot more expensive to repair. That's it. Problem fixed.

The problem is these stupid carbrain voters πŸ€ͺ don't want any of that that.

πŸ”΄ If you start banning SUVs and luxury cars, they will whine about communism

πŸ”΄ If you allow insurance companies to use speed camera data to overcharge speeding drivers, they will whine about oppression.

There is no magic solution to this problem.

Voters want to buy huge cars, they want to speed, and they want cheap insurance premiums. At the same time. Well that's just not possible.

So now, New York will screw car crash victims.

Every solution in this country revolves around fucking over the victims.

Universal healthcare would reduce car insurance premiums significantly and could eliminate the need for health insurance.

Want to reduce premiums? Invest in transit, reduce the amount of people driving.

[–] halcyoncmdr@piefed.social 1 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

That may actually do the opposite. Insurance functions by spreading the risk across all clients. If there are fewer people paying premiums, they raise rates to compensate.

Or if there's more pedestrians and nothing else changes then potentially riskier to drive

Will this reduce premiums, or boost insurance company profits?

  • ~~Allow insurance companies to use speed camera data~~ Nationalize insurance companies as a not for profit government agency.

Ban cars. Don't nationalize them. The state already subsidizes cars to the point of planetary destruction.

Jesus Christ have you learned nothing from the last year?

We need to abolish capitalism, not replace it with an all-powerful federal government.

You could collectivise all insurance companies. Autonomy from the government and the capitalists.

Consumer cooperatives can be great "direct-er" democracy organisations when compared to governments.
