With the rise in popularity of Anime like "Delicious in Dungeon" and "Campfire Cooking in Another World", I wouldn't be surprised if people are honestly giving a "cooking bard" character a shot. I'm intrigued myself, but am curious if the RaW for this bard college works in practice. Is anyone out there playing one of these?

One of my friends has come up with rules for food and cooking, inspired directly by Delicious in Dungeon. It works really well. Food is directly linked to hit dice. You need to eat to maintain your HD, and you spend HD when healing wounds (even magically) and to exert yourself for bonus actions and such. Hunting, gathering, and cooking are all skill checks that determine how good the food is and how nourishing it is. We played a few test sessions killing monsters and harvesting food from them. Soon we will be playing a large campaign using these rules, and we're all looking forward to it.

This is incredible! Thank you for sharing these great ideas.

Is that even possible? I am quite unfamiliar with the current iteration of the rules or any supplements beyond the 3.5 era. But if I could basically have powers similar to the clothing exploding thing from Food Wars, I would.

Is that even possible?

Seems that way! These rules for this Bard subtype are pretty much centered on two things. One is that Bards are basically lightweight sorcerers in 5th ed, with very specific restrictions on slots and that their magic is performance/ritual based. Two, this subtype can imbue pieces of food with a spell, with the effects transferred to a creature upon consumption.

Role-playing aside, being able to choose when to start the clock on buffs and effects (within a single day) is kind of huge. It's practically potion crafting, with virtually anything edible as reagents.

As a DM, I'd absolutely figure out some house rules for a Food-Wars style bard. Bards can already sway people's emotions, so the fact they tend to disrobe while eating your food is just a fun side-effect, IMO. Or maybe we just make that a very specific cantrip?
