Well, it does make the villain more hateable.

I thought he was perfect in Bladerunner 2049. He's got creepy narcissist down.

[–] SolarPunker@slrpnk.net 14 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Yes, but only because that role required just aesthetics and posing; under a good director even the worst actor seems ok.

[–] ReplicantBatty@lemmy.one 3 points 3 months ago

I'm of the opinion that he was pretty much just playing himself

I liked him in Fight Club.

He was the albino dude that Edward Norton destroys because he is jealous of himself. If every movie cast Leto as a guy to just get his ass kicked by the protagonist with zero dialogue, that would be perfect.

I distinctly recall a calming, satisfying feeling washing over me the first time I watched that scene. Like something was right with this world. 🤌🏼

Focus groups were unable to stop wanting to have sex with Skeletor when any other actor played him.

[–] niktemadur@lemmy.world 22 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Holy shit, just how many blowjobs has this cult leader given to studio suits? Of what kind of dirty laundry does he have on them?
Why does this JUST. KEEP. HAPPENING?!!

[–] Hasherm0n@lemmy.world 11 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Well... He does have an island of his own, doesn't he?

[–] niktemadur@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago

And loads of groupies on the younger side... if you know what I mean.
To paraphrase one parasite talking about another parasite.

No! This is how I find out about He-man movie and have my expectations shattered at the same time?

Jared Leto is method-acting again

🙁

He’s playing a corpse

😀

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 months ago

We could only be so lucky.

[–] ReplicantBatty@lemmy.one 7 points 3 months ago

You raised my hopes only to dash them most excellently, sir

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Does it have Michael Cera as Zorko?

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 months ago

That would track. 🤢

Leto is bad when he's the lead. He's great as a supporting actor usually and so-so as a villain.

Many people cite his Joker as being bad, but most of his performance was cut from Suicide Squad and it's not as if any performance in that turd of a movie was particularly great (except for Harley and Waller), since apparently Ayer is a director which encourages his actors to go method and/or extreme.

Still, take his Joker and apply it to Skelletor and it might just work much better, since the character has always been over the top. It's not as if Frank Langella didn't ham it up to eleven in the old live action movie, and it works great there.

Funny enough, this is the second time a Joker plays Skelly since Mark Hamill voiced him in the new animated show.

I think people hate him more for being a creepy rapist.

[–] Zanathos@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

No. Leto is just bad in general. In movies and music. I've shared my opinion of him before but can't find the energy to rant about him right now, and it's not worth the time anymore either. I just don't understand how he keeps getting support by the studios.

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 months ago

I just don't understand how he keeps getting support by the studios.

Effort is being applied to keep it that way. 🤌🏼

I dunno how I feel about this.

Like on one hand leto is a fucking creep and terrible actor.

But on the other, skeletor was an over the top evil villain.

[–] dreadbeef@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 months ago

Y’all ain’t seen Dallas Buyers Club

[–] Apeman42@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Should've gotten the guy from Robot Chicken.

[–] WhiteOakBayou@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago (3 children)

Why do so many people hate Jared Leto? He does a competent job in most of his roles and a good job every now and then. I don't know if I can see him as diabolical evil-for-evil's-sake like skeletor but maybe. I haven't seen him in anything recently but My So Called Life was pretty good.

  • people don't like him in a few movies, including the joker
  • he has at least 9 public sexual misconduct allegations against him, including costars alluding to some additional misconduct
  • his fans treat him like a cult leader and he leans into it, adding to the "creepy narcissist vibe" for many people
  • he is an intense method actor, going so far as to send used condoms and dead rats to production companies and costars during the filming phase

That's the jist of it, but for me there's some additional things, like seeing some of the tiktoks he did he is just missing the mark for me. To me he comes off as inauthentic in minor ways, leading him down the uncanny valley.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

he is an intense method actor, going so far as to send used condoms and dead rats to production companies and costars during the filming phase

Wait, I don't think that's how method acting actually works.

[–] WhiteOakBayou@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I didn't know about the sex or cult stuff. I never saw the joker, I was done with all the comic book movie by then. I like to think that if I got unconscionably rich doing something I loved I'd neither sexually harass people nor save used condoms but I guess the old folks were right, it goes to show you never can tell.

[–] Test_Tickles@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

Don't confuse joaquin phoenix and jared leto. The 2019 Joker movie has nothing to do with jared leto.

[–] meekah@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 3 months ago

Leto was Joker in suicide squad, not in the joker movie

[–] frog_brawler@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

Probably all the rape

[–] Dalvoron@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I've only seen him in half a dozen things, not including My So Called Life. I think he's been terrible in all but one role, which was in WeCrashed. In that, he did a great job of playing a creepy weirdo. Based on that experience, he might do a decent job of skeletor

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 months ago

Are you the casting director? This sounds like their logic, to a tee. 🖕🏼
