I think the animated series somehow went under the radar.
Just finished a rewatch of SAC and it's mind-blowingly on point and relevant.
I enjoyed SAC much more than the original feature. It had time to world-build etc.
Did you know there are two more anime after that?
Also, I loved both the JoJo and Kamen Rider references.
I watched 2nd Gig and was vaguely aware of more, but the franchise fell off my radar.
The latest season is a prequel. I am dying to watch it. My only concern is the animation style changed to 3DCG.

animated godzilla and gamera has becoming interesting to me. Inuyasha should be up there, one of the OG ones in the early 2000s.

It doesn't feel like a scifi IMO.
Shin Sekai Yori (From The New World) and Dennoh Coil are amazing sci-fi series that are always overlooked.
