General community for news/discussion in the UK.

Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.

Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

I am so tired of seeing this stock photo of app icons on a screen.

Im for it myself. Honestly wouldn’t mind a ban on algorithmic based news given the state that America is in.

I’m starting to see social media as smoking. It’s bad for you. Give up

But to implement it would require age verification... Which we already know is a horrible idea

Kids growing up being able to see porn on demand is also a horrible idea. Arguably a more horrible idea.

The onus is on us to provide a solution to that if we want to remove ID checks from websites that serve adult material. Which currently is porn but could be easily expanded to social media.

I'd be happy to take the hit to get my wider family off of Facebook and X.

Although I feel this site has a more sensible algorithm that doesn't reward brigading. I think some tighter regulation is possible in the digital sphere
