Finished the second season of #YuYuHakusho earlier today.

So far, story as well as its tone and rhythm are pretty good, both the English and Brazilian Portuguese dubs are surprisingly decent, battles are surprisingly mobile for the series' age as well as these being intelligent and generally fun, and I feel like it was the base for most #anime tropes that came after, or at least coincidentally elements those other animes overuse often feel like they had already appeared in Yu Yu Hakusho.

So far ~~so good~~ so great

One of the few shows where I feel the dub actually improved the show! The color commentary during the dark tournament in English was top tier.

I should try to give the second season a watch. I only remember the first one from when I was a kid in the 90s lol, it might be a fun rewatch at some point.

It holds up! I watched it for the first time a couple years ago and breezed through it.

Also is it just me or did Boutan get nerfed after season 1? Can't remember her flying at any point of S2, and in a few moments it would have been useful.

I was actually just reading just reading about this pretty recently. If I remember correctly, the manga has her explicitly possess a human shell when she needs to interact with humans, and she doesn't have those powers in that form. The anime glosses over that, so you just see her fly around a lot in the early episodes and then she stops.

@stankmut@lemmy.world oooooooh

That explains quite a lot. 😯

Now I need to track down the manga too, to see what else may not be well explained.

Thanks!

YYH for the win! I was surprised to learn that it wasn’t as popular around the world as I thought (when I watched it in the 90s). Not sure which season the Toguro arc is, but it’s one of my favorites in any anime.

@scytale@piefed.zip Toguro is introduced near the end of S1 as part of the ice lady's mission, so I guess it starts there?
