  1. Stupidity of individuals is now causing harms to those who are vaccinated.
  2. Vaccines do not confer 100% protection.
  3. Community vaccination prevents a disease taking hold in a community.
  4. Go back to 1.

It's a shame that measles generally affects the innocent children of anti-vaxxers. And they just put it down to "God's plan" rather than actually blaming themselves. It's the parents that need taking out. One of the benefits of COVID was that kids weren't affected too bad but it would kill anti-vaxxers and idiots.

There's something I saw one time that has always stuck with me. A conservative person once said that they believe vaccines cause autism, but that they would rather have an autistic kid than a dead kid. But maybe we can push more of this? If your kid becomes autistic, it's God's plan?

The amount of insanity we currently live in is just too damn high!

jenny McCarthy help jumpstart/corrupt the minds of midwestern women and then it spread from there in the us. appears they stopped the "agenda" around 2015 for some reason.

measles is less dangerous to children , adults would get a more severe infection, this is the same for the other vaccinated disease, besides pertussis, flu. flu and pertussis more severe in children because of the lack of exposure.

I got shingles last year. The first week I was back at work three people looked at me and said "I should get that vaccine"

I hope every antivaxxer gets shingles, and I hope their doctors remind them it was preventable.

antivaxxers should get adult chickenpox, they will see how bad it can get. adult chickenpox is much more severe adults. shingles is minor compared to how bad chickenpox can get for adults. shingrx isnt available to <50yo, unless your immunocompromised.

[–] Crackhappy@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Shingles is adult chickenpox.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 2 months ago

not the same, adult chickenpox is getting varicella at adult age. shingles is the reactivated form which form dermatomonal blisters and rash.

Not exactly. Zoster virus as a child can lead to pox, flu symptoms, then recede into the immune system for life. If then immune compromised, the virus flares back up in nerve endings and skin, causing pain, inflammation, and can affect the brain.

Getting zoster for the first time as an adult is severe, but rare.

shingrx isnt available to <50yo, unless your immunocompromised.

Anyone can get Shingrex vaccine. About $300.

In Ontario, it's free ages 65-75.

it isnt reccommeneded and doctors and pharmacys are very resistant to approve an unapproved vaccine for under 50. also im not talking about people >50 at all which is covered by insurance.

Did they go do it?

Got mine. Even though depression, anxiety, and ADHD make my life hell, I did not want to be in physical pain.

[–] BananaChips@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 months ago

At least two. One had it done three days later, another did it within the week. Not sure about the third person, but the other two I asked and they both said they had.

I'm glad you got yours! Definitely worth it to avoid that pain. Since it's nerve pain, most pain meds don't help. And the one that did lowered it from a 9 to a 7.

Is this a refresher shot or did they not do it early in childhood?

[–] BananaChips@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'm not a medical professional, just did a quick search to verify: the first shot wasn't available for children until 1995, so older generations couldn't get it during childhood. That shot was only for children, a version for adults over the age of 60 came later in 2006, but was limited in effectiveness. In 2017 a new vaccine was introduced with significantly higher effectiveness for people over 50.

Thanks for clarifying

Sometimes the reason for someone’s existence is to serve as an example for why their behaviour and world view should be ridiculed and summarily dismissed.

Except it's mostly children whose only crime was to be born to the wrong parents

Evolution catches you coming and going :/

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'll always maintain, if you don't "believe" in vaccines you should also not "believe" in anesthesia.

[–] unphazed@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I had a longer list of questions regarding anesthesia than I did my oral surgery to remove my wisdom teeth. The nurses (techs?) made fun of me about my nervous shaking. I withheld the surgery for 8 years in fear of having it done. I had a long time schoolmate die in high school due to an allergy to anesthesia. So yeah, I was scared shitless. That was the first time I was given valium. Then for my vasectomy I requested that shit. I could walk into a battle on that shit without feeling apprehensive in the slightest.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 2 months ago

i was shaking so much during my wisdom tooth extraction, i was literally dizzy and have balance issue because i did it for so long, it was nervouse shaking. theyuse lidocaine now, so no anesthesia which usually is more dangerous.

124 cases have been diagnosed since Tuesday, bringing the total to 558 since the outbreak began in October.

Does anyone here have the stats on how many lasting injuries or deaths we can expect?
