"Says here you're from.....NEW MEXICO! HAH! GOTCHA! I KNEW YOU WERE A MEXICAN!"

[–] AlphaOmega@lemmy.world 31 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I live in NM. It's going to all out war when ice comes here. There's tons of natives that live here.

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 19 points 3 months ago (5 children)

Ice isn't in all of the US yet ? are they being deployed state after state or something ?

[–] ramenshaman@lemmy.world 27 points 3 months ago (2 children)

States that didn't vote for Trump are the main targets at the moment.

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 18 points 3 months ago (1 children)

holy shit ok...... even worse than I thought

[–] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago

A group of protesters found the plans printed out in an ICE they are to arrest vulnerable individuals who are probably

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 months ago

I just want to clarify that this isn't a joke. Trump isn't even trying to hide it. This is real.

are they being deployed state after state or something ?

Only a handful of cities, but their funding is something like $60 billion dollars, the equivalent of two or three branches of our military combined. I don't think ICE has the staff to go after whole states at this point, because there are many stories in the media that seem to indicate they are hiring every stupid motherfucker who puts in an application. They send a ton of people to small geographical areas so that, theatrically, it appears that they are more powerful and numerous than they really are.

There are various means of resistance happening in local communities. Here in Kansas City, Missouri, for example, our city council just banned ICE from receiving an permits or zoning for mass detention facilities here in our city.

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 16 points 3 months ago (2 children)

There aren't actually that many of them and this is a physically large country. They have been focused on cities that are more aligned with the Democrat party.

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 4 points 3 months ago (2 children)

That is super vicious, I didn't realize it was so targeted

[–] thisbenzingring@lemmy.today 15 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

The biggest city in Minnesota is Minneapolis, where most of this is crazy bullshit ICE news happening. Trump won the Presidency by beating Democratic Party Harris from California and Walz from Minnesota. Harris does not have any political positions so she is kinda out of the news. But Walz is Governor of Minnesota.

Let that sink in for a few minutes and when you look at the news again... vicious is probably tame, this is outright evil. even if you arnt a religious person, this is the worst on its way to something of historically nightmare

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 7 points 3 months ago

Ok thanks for all the context. so this is also petty personal revenge. Fucking hell

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Did you happen to notice that the national guard was deployed to cities with black Democrat mayors?

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)
[–] village604@adultswim.fan 1 points 3 months ago

Yeah, they're really not trying to hide it anymore. It's despicable.

[–] BeardedBlaze@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

They're in bumblefuck southern WV, scoping drivers at the tollways.

They're purposely deploying ICE To blue cities and states as retribution and provocation.

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 months ago

The us is too big and they’re afraid of resistance. If they spread out to all states at once, we could stop most of it by outnumbering them in most places.

Also they’re focusing on Blue cities to try and provoke protests for their propaganda and plans for marshal law.

[–] Pistcow@lemmy.world 81 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Aye, they did that thing we all told you they'd do.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Dude, this guy knew well before you did. He's very likely not a trump voter. You're thinking of Trump voters... They are creatures, not people. This guy is a person.

i can't make sense of this comment in this context, which is to say a Native man sharing the story of his arrest, and your statement which suggests he deserved it?

the leopards comments are moving from unhelpful to actively harmful, from my point of view. you're participating in the further dehumanization of one of the most historically oppressed peoples in this country.

edit typo

[–] Zamotic@lemmy.zip 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Pretty sure that comment is about ICE and how they are doing all the things MAGA supporters said they wouldn't do. And likely still believe they aren't.

[–] braxy29@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

i understand that. it just seemed a little tone deaf as a response to the video.

[–] athatet@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

People have been saying to carry all your identifying papers around with you in case you get stopped.

Others have correctly pointed out that ICE does not care about what papers you have with you and they will arrest you regardless.

There’s your context.

[–] Pistcow@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago
[–] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 58 points 3 months ago

Ok, good. I'm glad that happened. Because now my suspicion is more solid. Not that this happened but we have new information.

They don't give a flying fuck about your "papers." I don't recommend walking around with a birth certificate or social security card. Your passport is questionable too.

Why? Because they will take them, and say you had none anyway. Suddenly you are no longer who you say you are to any things that need them.

[–] roofuskit@lemmy.world 53 points 3 months ago (1 children)

They have arrest quotas, not identification quotas.

[–] PrimeMinisterKeyes@leminal.space 1 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Wow, really?
Quotas were introduced in the Stalinist USSR at one point in the 1930s, I think. Before that, you had to prove that you were innocent to have a shot at escaping imprisonment. Before THAT, authorities had to prove you did something wrong (they almost always found something, though).
Both of these early approaches were simply too inefficient to man the gulags and run the country into the ground, I guess.

[–] sin_free_for_00_days@sopuli.xyz 34 points 3 months ago

Damn. So fucked he (and all the others) went through that. Fuck ICE, and the MAGAts.

[–] taygaloocat@leminal.space 15 points 3 months ago

It's a good reminder to treat your fellow human being as well, a human being...

[–] notsosure@sh.itjust.works 14 points 3 months ago (3 children)

At least many native Americans have land on which they can retreat and which they can defend.

[–] Typhoon@lemmy.ca 13 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Yes because historically Native Americans have had success defending their land against violent imperialist invaders.

[–] discocactus@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

There aren't any reservations in China. So... But in all seriousness if anyone is interested in the history of native conflicts with the US government, Blood Struggle is a pretty good starting point. Several tribes fought the US military to a standstill and occupy their ancestral lands (or at least a significant portion of them). Navajo Nation is larger than the Netherlands.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 12 points 3 months ago

Not for long

[–] androgynouscloudmoon@slrpnk.net 6 points 3 months ago

I think it's safe to say the literal best thing to do when confronted by ICE is to try and leave, they will just ignore any identification and it's better to not be caught alone, have some people near you and work on cardio if you can; of course this doesn't help much with the door-to-door shit, so having emergency+legal contacts is also very important

[–] Aljernon@lemmy.today 2 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I encourage all Americans to arm themselves (and really humanity as a whole) and always have but I think Native Americans especially should arm themselves or face a possible repeat of history. Trump is threatening to Invade Greenland and Canada over resources and attack Venezuela to prop up the Petrodollar. There's zero chance he'll respect treaties with Native Tribes if there's mining that can be done on the Rez
