when I started watching A Quiet Place Day One I had a pause and look up spoilers to make sure nothing happened to the cat before I could continue.

Highly recommend https://www.doesthedogdie.com/ not just for dogs, and generally it lets you know the fate of animals without other spoilers for the film. Absolutely fired it up for that film as soon as the cat appeared

As a kid I used to get so fucking worked up every time the evil Bill & Ted clones tried to swerve at that cat.

I just don't get people like this, you're aware you're watching fictional media, right? If you can't disconnect what you're watching from reality you need to see a psychiatrist or grow beyond the age of 5 before watching film.

The inability to empathise with fictional characters speaks to a lack of imagination.

The point of the meme is that they only have empathy with cats, not with people being murdered.

You've moved the goalposts here: your original objection was to people's inability to separate reality from fiction.

No, that is you misrepresenting what I said, and I'm not gonna play these sad semantic games with you. You know exactly what has been stated here, you just don't like it, so you will invent whatever you need to say to make yourself feel good. I don't interact with that disingenuous shit because it's masturbation- I'm pointing out the hypocrisy, but you've dug your little hole in the ground and you won't leave it and you can stay there.

Bro what the fuck are you smoking and where do I get some? Your comment is right there, in case you need to reread what you typed.

Bad take. If movies didn't make you feel things, you'd have no reason to watch them.

Bad take. The problem here is that the person feels nothing seeing a human being murdered, only when it's a cat does it become a problem.

It's the same type of person who thinks you may never portray rape in film, because that is personally detestable to them- murder people and torture them and it's entertainment, but when it comes to their pet outrage (no pun intended) they are incapable of abstracting the thing because of their specific personal mores.

Well, I mean, cats might be venal assholes (and I love them for it for the same reasons I don't like servile waiters), but humans still manage to be worse... somehow.

As an aside, that bottom frame sort of gives the wrong impression.
