have you met many small business owners? not only do most of them absolutely believe they're entitled to your labor, but also to your undying gratitude for their generosity in giving you that slave-wage job.

also, perhaps even more absurdly, they somehow think it's the customers' responsibility to keep them in business-- if they start losing money, the first thought is "what is wrong with these stupid customers," rather than "what is my business doing wrong"

All the while, idolizing and trying to emulate the behaviors of the executives of the large corporations that are trying to put them out of business.

yea, and they'll go on facebook and say "why are you people going to walmart and amazon when you should be coming to myyyyyyyyy store!!!" while providing a shitty product/service and even worse customer service, AND charging more

It's almost like the entire economic system requires every business to exploit their workers as much as possible to remain competitive.

it's quite possible in many places to operate businesses specifically on not exploiting workers, like how fairtrade works.
