"Meta required users to be caught 17 times attempting to traffic people for sex before it would remove them from its platform, which a document described as "a very, very, very high strike threshold."

Meanwhile I’m permabanned from reddit because I basically quoted an aerosmith song.

Well… I didn’t directly quote them so much as I said we should eat rich people.

17 is such an odd limit. Do you think it's because by 18 it'd technically be an adult?

[–] OrionsMask@hexbear.net 3 points 19 hours ago

It's only after you traffic minors of every age from 1-17 that you've gone too far.

im so lost at what the reasoning is here. like im not expecting meta to have literally any morals whatsoever, but someone was surely in charge of rubber stamping this policy? where the fuck did 17 come from???

[–] christian@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago

Some Epstein associate got caught sixteen times before they decided to stop logging it and they're being proactive on that leaking?

this came up before and iirc "traffic people for sex" is some misleading thing and included independent sex workers?

the company’s current policy is to remove accounts as soon as they are flagged

very silly to use the current policy to defend against accusations about a previous policy. also no information on what "flagged" means

What does "traffic people for sex" even mean? Flirting, asking someone out, offering someone for sex, offering to pay for sex, etc? What is it you have to do 17 times to get kicked off?

If I drive a woman around, take her to dinner, maybe a movie, all hoping to get laid at the end of the night, did I traffic her for sex? Or did I just go on a date?

I'm sure glad I'm old and married.

If I recall correctly it means attempting to get anyone to cross a legal border where sex laws change for the purpose of sex. Doesn't have to have any money involved, for example taking someone across a border with different age of consent laws is trafficking.

In this case the threshold is probably so high because the number of dudes trying to get underage girls to cross a border with them or to them is very high.

Hmmm, maybe. I just remember that the innocent guy that they deported to El Salvador had been charged with human trafficking, and they still say he is guilty of that, which sounds horrible.

Then you dig into his case, and find out that his entire allegation of human trafficking derives from the one time that he was pulled over by the police for driving too fast. Turns out he had been asked by his employer to take the company van and go pick up some other workers, who were in his van when he got the ticket. That traffic ticket, with others on his vehicle, constitutes the entire charge of "human trafficking" - driving guys to work.

And why was he driving? Because the boss determined that he was the guy with the most sense of responsibility that he could trust with the company van, and the other employees. He was in that position because he was a good employee - until MAGA redefined him as a human trafficker.

So you'll forgive me when they start throwing around highly charged accusations like "trafficking." If they are determined to smear you, Child Sex Trafficking could mean driving your kids to the doctor for an exam. I don't trust ANYTHING I hear from this administration.

Oh sure, but this is stuff that could reasonably occur on facebook. I can't see how that scenario would ever play out on facebook.
