I live in Lapland it was truly horrifying and embarassing to follow this on the news.. And how the towns of Kittilä and Rovaniemi refused to help because no one had asked for it the right way and it kinda isn't in their job description.. Remember this when traveling here in the winter, it might be nobody's responsibility to help you.

How is not helping someone in need, in freaking -38C without proper shelter, not everyones' job? Like throw them a few blankets at least? After months, I still can't fully comprehend this.

Tourism gives a lot of jobs, as well as mining does. Without those, there wouldn't be much anything in Lapland. But there are environmental limits and now we can see that the critical infrastructure can't hold and sustain the current amount of tourists - we can't keep them safe during a little cold streak which is perfectly normal and happens every single winter!

Thoughts and prayers and lessons. Kittilä deserves this as one of the more zealous developers of tourism destinations. I hope they never get that access to Pallas they want so they could "develop" that too for more mass tourism...
