I'm going to celebrate when he dies

[–] neukenindekeuken@sh.itjust.works 58 points 2 weeks ago

There's an old Soviet joke:

A man goes to a newspaper stand every day, buys a copy of Pravda, glances at the front cover, curses, and throws it away.

After a few weeks of this the seller just has to ask what's going on: "why do you always look at the cover but never inside?"

"I'm looking for an obituary."

"An obituary? But those are in the back!"

"Oh no, the obituary I'm looking for will be on the front page."

[–] thefluffiest@feddit.nl 16 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Definitely. But don’t count on things automatically getting better after. Too many other unsavory characters waiting in the wings

[–] drdalek@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

My hope is the power vacuum rips them to shreds. Their unity is so fragile

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

That and none of them have the charisma to take over Trump's cult of personality.

[–] hash@slrpnk.net 6 points 2 weeks ago

New years was a practice round. The moment I see he's dead in the news I'm banging pots and pans and cheering at the top of my lungs.

[–] Duke_Nukem_1990@feddit.org 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I have a bottle of champagne with his name on it. Gonna be a good fucking day.

[–] kbobabob@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Ewwww

Everything with his name on it is shit

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Counterexample: his tombstone.

[–] thesohoriots@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It’s still gonna have shit on it. Gender neutral bathroom.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

If it's publicly accessible uncountable bathroom breaks will be had there. I highly doubt it will be though. He absolutely knows people despise him deeply. He's kind of made it his personality to ensure that.

Generalissimo Trump was never going to allow a simple election to threaten his power if he could stop it

[–] kingofras@lemmy.world 52 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

He’s going all in this year.

He has to. The Files and midterms are going to be bad for him, he has to keep the pace of escalation.

It will go fast now. By the end of this year the democrats will be labelled as a domestic terror organisation.

Your window to use your 2nd amendment is closing rapidly. Make citizens arrests of ICE officers, film it, post it on decentralised social media.

Organise, arm yourselves, strike, share food and shelter, use burner phones, use encrypted messaging apps (matrix).

Failure to do so will kill millions and fuck the world at a time we need to unite for climate change.

[–] ConstantPain@lemmy.world 17 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Not that I disagree with the message, but have seen this same comment on other posts, word for word, is kinda weird...

[–] Hupf@feddit.org 19 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

It is something that's been posted for a few months – they usually adjust the statement to whatever the post is related to. People from that old site are now showing up here with their own variations of the comment and call it delicious pasta or something. I hope that clarifies things…. but please do not let this extensive clarification distract you from the fact that in 1998, The Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell In A Cell, and plummeted 16 ft through an announcer's table.

Haven't seen that one in a hot minute. Good shit.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 weeks ago

Can we have less talk and more action?

They also have to move fast before Trump is unable to stand in front of a camera. His dementia has clearly become worse over the past 12-months.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago

If America had only had a functioning justice system, I could sleep peacefully! I'm pretty sure I'd have insomnia no matter what though

[–] Deadeyegai@lemmy.world 44 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Can't get impeached if you don't let people vote.

How is this patriotism? Constitution, hello??

[–] BigBenis@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

He's not a patriot, he's a power hungry man-child and he's called for the dissolution of the Constitution because it's in the way of him holding into power.

[–] CatpainTypo@lemmy.world 43 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The midterms are definitely getting cancelled. US citizens need to go all in in opposing this. General Strike now before it’s too late.

[–] 4am@lemmy.zip 11 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

He cannot cancel elections. Elections are state run, congresspeople’s terms still end, and there is no law that says otherwise. We can just go the fuck ahead without him.

[–] neukenindekeuken@sh.itjust.works 43 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

While you are correct, on paper, what you're describing is just some words on a paper that this administration absolutely does not give a single shit about.

We've never seen anything like what's happening here in the states before. Never. This hasn't happened once in the history of the country.

But it has happened in similar ways in other countries. Using those as an example, we should be very, very, very concerned that he's absolutely going to cancel the midterms somehow. I guarantee it.

And if I'm wrong, then thank fucking god. I'd absolutely love to be wrong about this.

But world history says otherwise.

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Attempting to cancel elections? That's happened before just not in "modern history".

Sorry, yes, parts of this have happened in US history, but not all at once, and not with an openly authoritarian and fascist regime in charge of all 3 branches of the government at the same time, which has made wildly sweeping changes to both our internal policies and also our disposition with our partners around the world.

Nothing like this has ever happened in US history, so we should be very careful about trusting that the "rules of norm" will be followed going forward.

[–] CatpainTypo@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

He can do it by declaring a bullshit emergency. He’s been trying to get people to riot in the streets so he can say the democrats are terrorists and therefore a free and fair election is impossible at this time. It hasn’t worked yet but the temperature is getting turned up with the Minnesota shooting.

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

No he can't, midterms are state. He can say he's a teacup but it won't make it true and he can say there's no election and yet there's no mechanism for the Feds to stop it without outright violence.

[–] CatpainTypo@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

If there is anything we have learnt from the last few years is that any norm any rule or any law will be broken by Trump. What we are seeing in Minnesota is the FBI taking over from the state because federal agencies have power over the states. Trump controls the FBI, CIA, ICE, National Guard. Mark my words, those midterms will be cancelled unless you deal a massive defeat to Trump now. General Strike.

[–] Typhoon@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 weeks ago

Okay and when he refuses to honour those elections? What then? He tried to overthrow the government last time he was told to leave. This time he IS the government. He isn't leaving.

[–] Xenny@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, if he canceled the midterms there'd be a lot of State turmoil. It would probably end the United States as we know it and break us up into smaller countries. Been waiting for that kind of outcome forever but not exactly like this.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago

He cannot cancel elections. Elections are state run

for now.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 23 points 2 weeks ago

If the US has midterms, Trump will be in lame duck status. This was supposed to be a power check for any president, but they are working hard to not allow any elections.

[–] jjagaimo@sh.itjust.works 22 points 2 weeks ago

Hold the election anyways and send him straight to jail when he doesnt leave office

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 13 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Has the invasion of Greenland been scheduled yet? I'd like to mark my calendar

[–] dellish@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Last I read Trump said it was to be talked about in two months or in twenty days. He said both these things in consecutive sentences, so who the fuck knows. It'll have to be before the midterms regardless.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago

My prediction is early February

[–] Artaca 12 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Damn he is so desperate to get people talking about anything but the Epstein files.

[–] tensor_nightly69@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

I'm curious - what difference do you really think the release of the Epstein files is going to make? People have made it clear they're okay with pedophilia and child abuse, as long as "the good guys" are the diddlers. So what difference is the full release of the Epstein files going to make to the average 10-second-attention-span propaganda buyers, really?

That's just a bonus.

What Trump really wants is "justification" to turn the military on his enemies. I've seen so many people say "He doesn't need an excuse," but right now, he and the people around him clearly still think he does and they're itching for one. So they keep trying to manufacture it with these ICE escalations hoping the "Radical Left" will start a violent riot they can crack down on and he can finally truly be the Strongman he's always wanted to be.

[–] SocialMediaRefugee@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago
[–] RockBottom@feddit.org 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

He’d loose, that’s why.

[–] AngryPancake@sh.itjust.works 16 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

He's not even allowed to run

[–] Macchi_the_Slime@piefed.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

Have you seen some of the "fixes" they have proposed for that?

My favorite is that they're gonna claim that Trump actually won in 2020, that this is actually already his 3rd term and thus he can continue to run because they've already invalidated the Two Term Limit.

He wasn't even allowed to run this time per the constitution.

[–] Idreamofcheesy@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

“How we have to even run against these people. Now, I won’t say, ‘Cancel the election. They should cancel the election,’ because the fake news will say, ‘He wants the elections canceled. He’s a dictator.’”

Now obviously trump is a fascist and an awful president and all that, but in all fairness this article did exactly what he said they'd do.

[–] lorski@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

He is just 24/7 vomiting distractions for the Epstein files at this point.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

he really desperate to hide his epstein files, being named hundreds of times per page, and his billionaire owners are pressuring him as well.
