There is this beautiful woman at my local Walmart who recognises me; she always smiles and waves at me. She usually works at the service desk and, from across the room, said, “How are you doing?” Now I’m aware retail workers are nice to customers because they have to be, but I still decided to shoot my shot. While no one was at the service area, she said, “Do you need help with something?” I was nervous and asked her name. She told me. I asked her how her Christmas was, and she said, “Good.” It was clear she didn’t want to have a conversation, so I just said, “I just wanted to say hi,” and left.

I’m aware of body language, and I take rejection well, so I just left.

But yeah, I’ve never asked out or dated a retail worker. I’m aware that just because someone is friendly with you doesn’t mean they like you, but I still wanted to shoot my shot.

Note to self: never ask out or date a retail worker.

you dont have the maturity to ask retail workers out, but that doesnt mean others also lack that experience.

this is a great first step, but its clear you dont understand body language. keep trying!

be nice and remember 'rejection' is incredibly normal, its a big freakin world.

I do understand body language, which is why I walked away…

If I'm not attracted to a person, I genuinely don't talk to them or respond to people talking to me.

You said you don't talk to people you're not attracted to. That's different from "not going out of my way to be friendly". Non-terrible people don't decide whether to talk to someone solely based on attraction.

The person I was responding to said, "You aren't mature enough to ask a retail worker out," which is weird, creepy and kind of predatory considering they don't know me and have never met me…

But sure, I'm the "terrible person".

Also, I think we all have had at least a glimpse into your personality since you so freely bare your soul while you're in the shower.

You did it wrong. You ask out retail workers by regularly buying items that illustrate your manliness and romantic nature. Next time you go in buy a pack of magnum condoms and some scented candles and say: "yeah the condoms are for my massive dong and the candles are for my fancy apartment." Then the next time you buy some tampons and a box of horse shoes and then you say: "yeah, I have women over at my fancy apartment (call back) all the time so I need these and the horse shoes are for my pony because I'm very masculine but I also have a caring side." If you keep this up she'll eventually ask you out.
