It’s not that surprising to me. The guy ministered in Peru for during the 80’s and 90’s. He’s seen this evil shit first hand.

"Let it be very clear, then, that when the church preaches social justice, equality, and human dignity; when the church defends those who suffer poverty or violence, this is not subversive nor is it Marxism. This is the authentic magisterium of the church.

He was anti-fujimori and helped expose the crimes of Sodalitium Christianae Vitae which lead to Pope Francis cracking down on them and dissolving them.
Two alright popes in a row
I still think Francis was a better person and pope in general, I think Leo had contact with priests who had been accused and arrested for sexual assault, pretty sure he allowed one of them to live in a church near a school for 2 years during the 2000s. Francis seemed to be more openly in favor of protecting the LGBTQ+ community than Leo (Francis did meet with Trans leaders from LatAm to discuss that) and Francis was very open about talking about Israeli war crimes.
Francis did still say that "gossip" (talking about SA accusations instead of letting the Church handle it internally) was a disease worse than Covid.
He also used slurs to talk about gay people saying theres too many f-try in modern society.
Not Francis. He collaborated with the Argentinian junta and gave up a bunch of leftist priests and civilians to be executed.
Not suprising tbh, the Vatican have in favor of peace in LatAm and reconciliation since 2013.
Latin America is also overwhelmingly Catholic, 72% of Venezuela compared to only about 22% in the US.
Uh oh, they're going to send JD Vance to kill the Pope again
