Back in November Steam on Linux use hit an all-time high at 3.2%. With the still increasing popularity around the Steam Deck powered by the Arch Linux based SteamOS, Linux gaming continuing to grow thanks to Steam Play (Proton), and excitement around the upcoming Steam Frame and Steam Machine hardware, the Linux gaming outlook continues to be positive. The Steam Survey results for December 2025 are out tonight and with just a tiny dip to Linux use.

The Steam Survey results for December have the Linux gaming marketshare at 3.19%, or just a 0.01% compared to the month prior. That's still much better than year-over-year when for December 2024 it was at 2.29% or below 2% for December 2023. If more Steam users were active in general thanks to the year-end holidays or for taking advantage of winter sale discounts, Steam on Linux at 3.19% still may be similar or larger in absolute terms than November

CachyOS at 8% of users, thats actually impressive considering its quite new and unknown. At least I felt it was but the numbers say no.

CachyOS actually grew a lot through 2025.

They reported: Discord: 20,500 members (+355.6%) Reddit: 30,000 members (+867.7%) Forum: 8,500 members (+466.7%)

And that "ISO downloads reached a peak of 133.000 per month and a total of 847.000". Pretty impressive.

I look into it and they even have their own custom kernel version. They are pretty serious.
