Oh Hey! You guys are also pirating in Japan as well as Venezuela? Americans so cray cray.
piracy
I get that I'm part of the problem, but at the same time most of the manga I read legitimately isn't available in English. I can only consume these through fan translations of scanned documents
Have you even tried not being a multi-billion dollar problem for Japanese publishers? Learn Japanese and then, import the manga you want to read. /s
I did try actually. But I struggle with German which is supposed to be one of the easiest for English speakers to learn.
Besides that, importing from Japan with these tariffs? I tried to order a book right before they went into effect, the seller cancelled the order, sent me a message to tell me the price went from 30 bucks to 65.
I was being facetious. Pirate all you want. I am not stopping anyone from pirating.
I get you, I'm not going to stop, but I did actually try
The article almost gets it but doesn't quite connect enough of the dots to get there. Not only is the lost sale methodology proven to be a hugely spurious assumption of the financial impact of piracy, but whoever is making that assertion in this case needs to also control for the sheer volume of titles and media not sold in the US in the first place, i.e. most of it.
The notion that we won't export it because it gets pirated because we won't export it is reasoning so circular you could use it to calculate pi to quite a few digits of precision.
