wtf, how can people live like this. There's barely any parking space in the middle

TBF, this isn’t showing the parking garages that are part of other buildings. Also, there isn’t a lot of residential in the business district (top part) and the crossroads (bottom part).

That said, fuck Kansas City there’s very limited public transit and the greater metro is fucking huge. You can’t live here without a car.

We just approved an extension to our streetcar line and there's another coming in the next couple of years. (And it's free.)

You can live here without a car. I know this because I do. It's difficult to be a suburbanite without a car though, and that's to be expected, because when those of us who live in the city voted to support the bus lines being free the suburbs cut funding to their regional lines and expected the city to foot the bill.

So really, what you should be saying is fuck the suburbs: JoCo, Independence, Blue Springs, Lee's Scummit, etc. etc. etc. The suburban city leaders are the reason why your transit is shit, not the KCATA.

Further, the area shown is our downtown area and a mere 25 streets out of hundreds. We have a whole-ass park that runs from 18th street into the 30's starting at SW boulevard, and there is a ton of park space interspersed throughout the city.

Well, business districts don't actually need parking either. It's just another way to get a system where everyone needs a car.

You have old city business centres without parking & work just as fine. In some cases you even get more greenery.

The city's working on that, and in fact, there's a plan being discussed to close one of the overpasses over I-70 and turn it into another public park and event space spanning several blocks.

Green is parking structures?

[–] chrome_daddy@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago

Looks like green is multi-story parking garages and yellow are parking lots yeah

Wow, someone actually found surface parking lots interesting! Green is definitely NOT parking structures. They're just big flat areas where cars can park. It's kind of like a giant parking lot, but with green grass and trees instead of concrete.
