New Yorker here.

Billionaire Mike Bloomberg cut down on traffic in Manhattan by closing off streets and he supported congestion pricing, which became a thing under ex-cop Mayor Adams.

De Blasio supported free buses.

The most popular Mayor in New York City history ran on a Fusion Ticket where he was supported by the Communist Party, the socialists, and the Republicans.

And my favorite NYC political quote, from Ed Koch.

"If you agree with me 51% of the time, vote for me. If you agree with me 100% of the time, seek a psychiatrist."

That was his transportation secretary Janet Sadik-Khan's idea, give her credit! She was the brains behind all of the Bloomberg safe streets / cycle network stuff. And she did it on a shoestring budget. He gave her a few million bucks for paint and she created hundreds of miles of bike lanes.

The billionaire giveth, and the billionaire taketh away.

Bloomie's daughter was in charge of an update of the City's payroll. It ended up costing the taxpayers about a billion and people were indicted.

I only know Ed Koch from the people’s court

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

So you were watching TV in 1997?

Burn the old person, burn him I say!!!

[–] But_my_mom_says_im_cool@lemmy.world 16 points 4 months ago (1 children)

And for some reason the guy who used to interview people outside of people’s court is now running TMZ , and the meathead idiot from news radio is now the biggest right wing podcaster. 2025 is weird

"...you can get away with it if you're famous."

I only know Ed Koch from that quote "how am I doing?" that psychologist Alfie Kohn calls "deeply neurotic" in its search for validation

I wish every politician was driven the insatiable need to make sure they're doing their job well.

"If you agree with me 51% of the time, vote for me. If you agree with me 100% of the time, seek a psychiatrist."

I remember seeing a video of Zo Boy talking about how he cited that quote in a previous video then was approached by some enthusiastic dude shouting "100% my man, haul me off to the clink!" lol

Dick Cheney's ass in hell, Mamdani in the mayor's chair, I don't know if I can take all this winning.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 34 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (2 children)

And Mamdami brought Khan onto his team

And Republicans lost a ton of other elections this week

And Nancy Pelosi is retiring

I am very tentatively hopeful for the future

[Edit] FORGOT ONE

Sandwich guy acquitted.

This is so encouraging. Thank you for the list!

Let's all keep protesting the status quo. I feel it helps.

A judge order the ICE to stop torturing people in the Chicago detention center

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 8 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Which Kahn? Lina, Sadiq, or Ghangis?

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

Lina, my celebrity crush

[–] infinitesunrise@slrpnk.net 1 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

I was hoping for Sadik-Khan, Bloomberg's transportation chair! (The best person from that administration IMO)

Meme

(Context: this is a picture of Dick Cheney)

Cartoonist fucked up, he should be on a bicycle riding around the barrier instead of smashing through it with a car. Zohran is a cyclist, he doesn't own a car, he supports safer streets.

[–] Korne127@lemmy.world 17 points 4 months ago (6 children)

Okay, so a cartoonist posted it and it is signed. But there are some relics that are typically only in AI slop (e.g. the top right corner of the green sign)… I don't know what to think

[–] CrazM13@lemmy.world 18 points 4 months ago

If vector art was used, or the outlines were placed/adjusted algorithmicly, this is a relatively normal effect caused by a bad path or stray vertices. While it could have been touched up with AI, I'd personally give the benefit of the doubt on this one

[–] MountingSuspicion@reddthat.com 16 points 4 months ago

I went to the linked account page and it seems like just a consistent quirk in the artist's style. I imagine it'd be difficult to get AI to do that as consistently as it seems. Additionally, he posted the following regarding AI accusations: https://newsie.social/@royaards/115490549503341601

[–] MeatPilot@sh.itjust.works 11 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

I'd have to vote not AI. Just scanned it really close and looks very much like digital art shading and the disconnected lines are a artistic choice.

I can see where he drew the outline the fill and the shading, looks natural. But it's hard as hell to tell each day.

Think the safest thing artists can do these days is a return to physical media (paint, ink, charcoal). Digital art like this is just so easy for AI to shit out. Not a craft issue, not because it's easy. But because digital is heavily in it's toolkit.

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

Artists don't have to throw away digital media, just they are adapting with process videos and live streams. A real proof of life sorta deal since AI is holding their craft hostage.

[–] qevlarr@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago

Not AI, just a particular style he's practiced since before AI was a thing

[–] lmmarsano@lemmynsfw.com 4 points 4 months ago

Are you AI slop? I don't know what to think.

[–] Schmuppes@lemmy.today 3 points 4 months ago

Even nailed the tiny hands of his.

[–] nkat2112@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 months ago

Sweet lord, this is beautiful. Thank you for sharing, OP.
