so this is interesting. i knew some states governments had passed some emergency resolutions to do something about SNAP (i.e. supplementing funds) beyond the lawsuit, but i wasn't sure who had. the smattering of states includes who you might expect on either end, but there are some oddities in there for sure.
if you can't read the tiny text,
- red = do nothing
- green = supplement with state funds
- purple = working on a bill to use state funds
Additional Context:
Editor’s Note: As of October 31, 2025 at 3:57pm, a federal judge in Rhode Island has ordered the U.S. government to pay monthly SNAP benefits through November as soon as possible despite the shutdown. The ruling came just after another federal judge in Washington D.C. ordered the Trump administration to distribute contingency funds for SNAP. It remains unclear if and when funds will be distributed and the exact amounts SNAP recipients will receive. This is a developing story.
anyway, it's really classic politics for a state like texas to give ZERO fucks about poor people, but have their senators grandstand about how the democrats are playing politics with poor peoples' ability to get food. i listened to some texan GOP assbite on CSPAN yesterday for about 12 seconds, going on and on about how the minority opposition party is the real enemy of the poor.
like, no shit, if a state government has no contingency plan for at least short term supplementing as of right now, that is a choice.
