General community for news/discussion in the UK.

Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.

Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

I've not been able to load the site from a UK IP address since this weekend I think. I can ping it, but browser requests just times out.

Edit: I'm in London BTW.

O2/giffgaff blocks it. I'm using a VPN to Netherlands since imgur got blocked so they too, can get stuffed.

True. giffgaff blocks it, I've a VPN on my phone for the same reason.

Works for me. Tested on Virgin Media and EE Mobile in London.

Thanks for your reply.

It's weird, maybe It's my provider who blocked them then. Will try with another DNS provider and see if that solves it.

I couldn't even access my home instance (thelemmy.club) after a server upgrade without changing my DNS. I thought it had shut down until I saw it worked on a VPN. ISPs do weird stuff like that. Try changing your DNS. Archive.org works fine for me, I'm using cloudflare DNS.

Check whether your provider enabled some kind of adult content filter or something like that. Maybe archive.org ended up the blocklist.

[–] recursivepickle@piefed.social 1 points 2 months ago

That's a good shout. I'll see if they have anything like that.

Not working for me on Virgin…

Yes, turned off, and my hub is in modem mode (using FreshTomato on an R8000).

If you're on Three UK or O2, then it looks like it may be blocked: https://www.blocked.org.uk/site/http://archive.org

Now that is a useful site. Thanks for that.

Opens ever so slooooowly using Gigaclear and Firefox; it's as if the site is overloaded and it doesn't fully load. No luck on Vodafone 4G; the connection times out.

Working for me in South Wales on Plusnet, but not on mobile data from Smarty.

[–] recursivepickle@piefed.social 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

That's also odd. I'm on Hyperoptic, I should probably give them a call to ask what's up.

Thanks for your reply!

[–] Tippon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 months ago

No worries 🙂

I've just tried again on mobile data, and it's working properly. The weather here has been a bit shit, so it might just have been that earlier 🤷🏻‍♂️

[–] Codpiece@feddit.uk 2 points 2 months ago

Works for me, but did take a long time to resolve.

Is that on both your phone data plan and broadband connection? It's beginning to look like it might be provider dependent.

[–] cman6@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

On my phone it failed instantly! "Secure connection failed" apparently.

Different providers for broadband and phone

Working fine from mobile phone, Yorkshire. 4G Talkmobile (using Vodaphone's network). Loaded immediately.

[–] DakRalter@thelemmy.club 2 points 2 months ago

Talktalk wifi and it loads for me.
