For me? Frieren.

I am still gonna try two more episodes, but episode one was boring and underwhelming to me. Not that anime needs to have action, because I also like slow films (one of my favorites being Rear Window), but episode 1 of Frieren did not hold my attention that well.

At the end I said out loud "this is what everyone is hyping about?"

Maybe I change my mind by episode 3, but if not I guess I will just have to leave my enjoyment of it to the memes.

Frieren was an upper mid anime for me.

I still enjoyed it, but maybe a quarter of the way through you can really start to tell that it was based on a visual novel dating kinda game and a lot of that stuff turned me off.

I also hate that it gets recommended as a great time travel anime. It's a terrible time travel anime, it doesn't even count as time travel. It's a monkeys paw anime!

I agree. Such a wasted potential though, and great music as well! :blobcatcomfsob:

I heard so many people describing Nichijou as the greatest comedy of them all, I liked it but it wasn't as funny as I expected, they also started repeating some jokes with faster pacing in the 2nd half for some reason

It has around 3 absolutely peak scenes, that are on Youtube.

But that's mainly it.

City: The Animation for me. I really wanted to like it and the animation style is great, but I just didn't find it very funny.

Relatable. Never really expected to see another person who thinks the same

I think my taste has just changed as I got older. Can't watch anything focused on kids like demon slayer, Kamen riders, let's say the vast majority of anime. But everyone talked shit about the Rick and Morty anime but I kinda enjoyed it. I also kinda enjoyed the retro feel of go go loser ranger, but it didn't hold onto me enough to finish it.

Parasyte, Tokyo ghoul and your lie in april

Cyberpunk Edgerunners. Way too much character development harkens off screen between episodes.

Also, Miltech troops having the accuracy of am average A team villain when firing at an unmoving target for literally half an episode was just... A choice

For me it's Reincarnated as a Vending Machine. A lot of people like it and it's already in season 3 but I couldn't do it. And I'm normally a huge sucker for isekai. I gave it 3 episodes and I was done.

Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!: I don't like how crazy the main character is.

And Chainsaw Man, don't want to elaborated on this

[–] SparroHawc@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

Chainsaw Man is simple. All the characters are awful and I hate watching them.

as a rule of thumb, more often than not, if an anime is being "mainstream" and having a lot of people interested in it is a safe indicator that it's boring and not watch-worthy

everything interesting and watch-worthy is so edgy that the majority of the population can't handle it; though that's essentially why it's watch-worthy in the first place. it gives you some nice and much-needed mental gymnastics. :)
