What kind of bowls are these? (lemmy.ca)

I found these unique items labelled "bols" which I think is French for "bowls". They came with a strangely-shaped key, but it doesn't help, I can't see how to use these items as bowls?

It is quite heavy though.

And yes, I'm kidding, I know this item is the deadbolt demo from a locksmith. The three Abloy deadbolts are models that sell for ~300$ each, or so various sites have me believe.

I've already unmounted the top one and I will see how easily I can put it on my entrance. They really are massive, unlike mainstream deadbolts were the covering is hollow stamped metal, these are massive. Like, so massive the door itself is the weak point now, it's probably easier to kick it in than try to pick or drill this out.

I wonder how my usual locksmith will react if I ask for a copy of an Abloy key? Can the tumblers or whatever be reset? All three open with the same key.

I think you are going to have to look for the abloy dealer in your area. Most locksmiths around here won't touch them unless they are dealers.

The way I dress they'll probably escort me out before I reach the counter. This is definitely upper-class stuff, not for plebes like me. I'm maybe more of a Medeco guy, or Schlage.

Depending on which system it is, it might still be covered by patents, in which case only Abloy can make new keys – and they will happily do so if you can provide them with proof of ownership. (Where I live, quality locking systems will come with a card containing the relevant information, which serves as proof of ownership. I'm not sure if that's how it works elsewhere.)

There are companies offering rekeying services for Abloy systems but I'm not aware of the details. It's probably not something you'd want to try yourself.

Abloy make nice locking systems. I use une on my apartment door (which is definitely weaker than the lock now). Not the cheapest but also not super expensive for my simple setup, and the slender key saves space in my pocket.

Why not both? We can both have a good time! Anyway, I thought something along those lines when I bought this, worst case, it's a "kinetic sculpture" I can put somewhere for guests to marvel at and play with. Take the Goodwill sticker off and put Louis Vuitton and suddenly all the kids will want one.

If I can't make another key, it's risky to put a very strong deadbolt on my door!

If you can't get a professional to make one, you could always go full DIY mode.

Look up the Lock Picking Lawyer. He has a few, or more, videos about these. One would need a specific tool, that's not cheap, to pick these locks. I've been picking locks for a few years now and don't have any. Not common in the in my area. Nice find!
