Today F1TV learns a new word, "Piracy"

[โ€“] DarkShaggy@lemmy.world 25 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Worst decision ever. This service is so awesome!!! Not going to move to appleTV. Too many subscriptions already.

[โ€“] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago (1 children)

The AppleTV subscription includes F1TV

[โ€“] DarkShaggy@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Right and I don't want apple TV, like many others

Then just get F1TV via another country is very easy to do if you have an iOS device. I have subscribed to F1TV with an Indian Apple account and only pay around 40 Euro for Premium.

I already wrote a comment on how to do it: https://lemmy.world/comment/20005259

Unfortunately canโ€™t be done via the F1TV website or Google Play Store. Since you would need a credit card or bank account from that country.

You probably need VPN to use the service though since it isnโ€™t available anymore in your country. Not entirely sure about that since F1TV is available where I am watching it from.

Money!

In Germany this happened a few years ago too. Sky probably spent a ton of money, so they could get exclusive rights. Free TV only can broadcast a few races, instead of all and we couldn't subscribe to F1TV any more. Oh and Sky increased the prices by a lot.

One big thing is that the subscriptions donโ€˜t renew in the vsa. In Germany they still do renew

My guess would be ESPN is taking over streaming in the US.

Ah. All the same to me lol ๐Ÿดโ€โ˜ ๏ธ

[โ€“] MantisToboggon@lazysoci.al 2 points 5 months ago (2 children)

oh that makes sense. what's f1?

[โ€“] Triumph@fedia.io 13 points 5 months ago

It's between ESC and F2.

[โ€“] TonyTonyChopper@mander.xyz 2 points 5 months ago

a motor sport series

[โ€“] Crazazy@feddit.nl 8 points 5 months ago

I thought the entire point of this Liberty Media era of f1 was so that it appealed more to Americans why are they doing this

[โ€“] voytrekk@sopuli.xyz 8 points 5 months ago (3 children)

So am I going to have to subscribe to AppleTV then? That has to be more than the cost of F1 Premium.

[โ€“] ZoteTheMighty@lemmy.zip 4 points 5 months ago

F1 TV is $95 a year, Apple TV is $99 if you pay in advance, or $13/mo. So pretty similar actually. Although that's current pricing, Apple has 3 months to bump the price or something shitty like that. F1 TV only worked on like 3 devices, one of which was Apple TV. This might actually improve their Linux compatibility if it's now using Apple infrastructure.

Not a fan of centralizing content, but this doesn't look too bad for 2026.

If you have an iPad or an iPhone it is very easy to get F1TV for much cheaper via an Indian Apple account.

  • create an Indian Apple account.
  • Buy Apple credit in Rupees from https://amazon.in/amazonpay/home (under Recharge & Bills => See All)
  • logout of โ€œMedia and Purchasesโ€ in your Apple account settings in the iOS settings
  • login with the Indian account
  • go to the AppStore to redeem the credit
  • use an Indian address you can find on Google maps
  • go to the F1TV app and subscribe
  • if the subscribe options doesnโ€™t show up. You need to use a VPN to the UK. PrivadoVPN has a free tier
  • you need to sub to the monthly TV Access tier and then upgrade to Pro or Premium in the iOS settings where you manage the subscriptions.

Edit: here is proof that it works. This is my sub to F1TV, I donโ€™t live in India and my iPhone is registered to a Dutch Apple account yet Iโ€™ve only paid 3649 INR which is 42 USD for Premium.

[โ€“] galaxy_nova@lemmy.world 0 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Itโ€™s not if youโ€™re paying monthly. I swear everyone likes to just complain. Sure big company bad but I donโ€™t know why everyone is so mad about Apple having the streaming rights

[โ€“] voytrekk@sopuli.xyz 7 points 5 months ago (1 children)

If my costs go up, then I have a right to complain.

I'm really just trying to figure out how I am supposed to watch F1 in the future. I have until August of next year to find out if it is worth it to sign up for AppleTV to continue watching F1.

A simple DuckDuckGo search would tell you want you need to knowโ€ฆ although I did already tell you. Mostly I was referring to the many people saying โ€œtime for piracyโ€ when I donโ€™t understand how espn is any different/better than Apple except that their app is absolute fucking dogshit
