We spent a lot of time riding bikes along these lovely road/paths that run through the rice area.

Yeah, in Vietnam, they call the war the American War and have a museum with all the atrocities and captured American equipment.
I'd love to get that kind of education. But alas as an American I'd be embarrassed to visit Vietnam as well.
You can conquer that fear of embarrassment by loudly talking about "this is why we kicked all y'alls asses"
