I was on a long walk yesterday and noticed this unfamiliar plant with red berries growing by an unkempt fence line. I snapped a picture to ID later and found out it's wild asparagus. Truly wild.

Hilarious that when searching for information on asparagus berries, you get nothing but AI generated word diarrhea articles that disagree wildly on whether or not they're edible. From "highly toxic" to enthusiastic endorsement as "delicious".

When I was a kid, my dad used to tell me to "go up by the fence line and find some asparagus." Him being my dad, I always thought he was just trying to play a joke on me, so I would just brush it off and go on my way.

It wasn't until I was a Full Ass Adult that I realized that the people walking by the farm fence along the highway nearby carrying grocery bags were ... going up by the fence line and finding some asparagus.
