Is this the fruit that smells like a carcass?

[–] thefluffiest@feddit.nl 6 points 1 week ago

Yes. A rotting carcass in the summer heat, to be exact. With a hint or sweetness

Picture a bag of sweet onions that's been sitting there too long and the bottom ones are getting soggy and smushed and leaking brown juice all over.

But it's only smells. It tastes nothing like that. It's like a weird, creamy fruit custard. I thinknit's ok, but some people love it.

My only experience with it was when a friend got durian gummies on a road trip. We figured it'd be the most palatable way to try the flavor.

Each gummy was individually wrapped, but as soon as we opened the big bag the smell was intense in the car and almost too much. We opened a single gummy and we all had to roll our windows down as the stench of toes and death was filling the car from the candy. We tried taking nibbles, but the flavor was identical to the smell and we all had to pull over and spit it out. We had to throw them all away.

And that was 90% sugar, I cannot imagine that fruit in its raw form.

I've only had it a couple times, but it only tasted slightly like it smelled. Not particularly pleasant, but not terrible either.

It is a popular perfume among the skeleton folks, but the way you put it sounds rude

Yes, I tried it because everyone said how wonderful it was. I'd give it a 6 out of 10.

I’m not a fan either

[–] udon@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Same. By all the hype around it, I would have expected some extreme value, like either a 1-2 or a 9-10. But it was really just quite... mediocre?

Jackfruit ftw

More load than the average F-150 user.

One of my favourite motorcycle images was in Malaysia ... a young woman, with two other young women and six children all hanging on to one another and the women in various positions as they weaved through traffic. They all looked so calm and bored that it was obvious that they do this drive like this every day.

[–] Quilotoa@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago

Yeah, a different perspective on the use of a motorcycle.

Squinting at this as a thumbnail had me thinking there was a guy slumped over, over the seat.

Laughs in Lao. That bike doesn't even have a wood oven.

I guess durian is in season.

One of the islands of Indonesia.

[–] faintwhenfree@lemmus.org 8 points 1 week ago

That's underselling it, it's one of the most populous islands of Indonesia(50% of entire country's population lives on Java with heavy concentration on Jakarta) . 13th largest island in the world but 3rd largest in Indonesia. It's also home to more than 70% of Indonesia's GDP. Java is the heart of Indonesia.

[–] floppybiscuits@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Literally half the population of the US lives on Java...158million people like wtf

[–] Digestive_Biscuit@feddit.uk 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I've driven in Jakarta. That was interesting.

[–] starlinguk@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I never figured out what side of the road they officially drive on.
