Yeah no, this is the same narrative as the UK with the madness that is their internet censorship laws.

What we need is proper education about these topics taught to both adults and children, its up to the parents to protect their children, and we need to teach them how to do it themselves.

education is not a silver bullet solution against propaganda. nobody is immune to it, and hyper-targeted algorithmic feeds are an order of magnitude more effective at influencing opinion than traditional print campaigns. it has never been easier to manufacture consensus and consent, and that kind of power absolutely needs guardrails. this is not a 'for the children' thing; younger people are uniquely vulnerable but this affects everybody on these platforms.

obviously mass censorship and social media bans are not the solution but there must be a better way than giving big tech corporations carte blanche to poison people's brains for their advertisers' ends (and their own).

AKA "Instead of being parents, the government should parent my child"

Christians want control over everyone else.s children

[–] Damaskox@lemmy.world -1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Then again - it would probably be asked too much from parents to keep an eye on their kids all the time, every second. Even when they are not around their kid (like, during school).

(Responsible) Services should be viewed, and controlled from more than only one point of view/party. (Just like everything else as well)

I'm all for regulating social media, problem being historically when regulation happens on the internet its for surveillance, not for children. Big tech has lined the pickets of politicians across the globe. Any child can get around UK and US ID laws by finding the right webpage, or using a VPN if they're a bit older. Unless there's a massive class shift in our near future we are NEVER going to see regulation that actually helps the parent. It will always be to oppress the lower classes. I understand where you're coming from and I wish we lived in a world where that could work. Looking around though, I don't think it ever will.

I'd rather just get rid of TikTok and the algorithm corporate social medias personally.

Not only minors.

Fascist propaganda must be censored as fuck.

[–] Jake_Farm@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Minors should not be allowed on the internet at all. Or maybe limited to wikipedia and other information sources.

[–] fluffykittycat@slrpnk.net -1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Why do you support isolating gay kids in abusive households?

[–] Jake_Farm@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Why do you support, body dysmorphia, and child suicide? Why do you support political radicalization? Grow up

[–] fluffykittycat@slrpnk.net 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Being able to talk to people over the internet is the only reason I didn't kill myself as a teenager. Evil people who want to control other people's children are using the internet as a scapegoat

[–] Jake_Farm@sopuli.xyz 0 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

For every one of you, there are more kids either getting groomed, radicalized, or driven to suicide themselves.

[–] fluffykittycat@slrpnk.net 1 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

You're scapegoating the internet for institutionally supported harms to children. Church is radicalizing more boys that internet videos, and that's seem as encouraged

[–] Jake_Farm@sopuli.xyz -1 points 21 hours ago

You better have some studies that demonstrate that cause in less than 10 minutes i could easily find the ones backing up my claims.
