"Challenge me" is actually very very good... as long as you enter into it in good faith and with an open mind.

As opposed to being a grifter and doing it to score points and look good on YouTube for people who agree with you because that drives clicks and money

Thursday night I was at work drinks, I said I respect vegans and vegetarians because they do good for the environment.

Director was like, "I don't believe that"

I laughed and said, "which? that they're good for the environment? or global warming?"

"Global warming"

What came after was this guy saying how it's all bullshit and I'm just like, "90+% of climate scientists would disagree though?" but he wasn't really wanting a discussion. He wanted to get his talking points out. I was really taken aback.

I think it hits particularly hard when these people are close to you (professionally of course). Every day. They might even be nice otherwise.

It's one thing on social media, but IRL? Well, my solution was to make it clear that we disagree and we just decided not to talk about it. Whenever he tried to convince others though, I'd pipe up again.

The alt text is "We all do this a bit tbf," and I wanted to respond to that. If you keep the milk out of the fridge just while you're using it, that's a big difference from a person who leaves the milk out for several days and then puts it back in the fridge.

It's useful to start by saying, "I'm going to stick with my previous beliefs." Otherwise, it would be very difficult to learn anything, if you just constantly start from zero. So, we do "all do this a bit." But I don't think that's a defense at all for a person who resolutely refuses to learn anything new.

I was surprised by the signature on the image. I thought it was AI generated in the style of a Fallout game
