No idea about the person(s) behind the channel, but I cannot take someone seriously if they're still recommending Proton these days.

Why not?
Recently they've been caught vibe coding with Claude and hiding the evidence (rewriting the repo's history) among other things (horrrific statements by their CEO e.g.)
Yeah, I've been using the free version for years, and have always expected to upgrade once I convince my wife we need to fully de-google. The CEO thing made me start looking for alternatives, and there are so many.
Exactly, it's not like there aren't any alternatives nowadays, no need for Proton.
I'm curious if you're legitimately unaware of the issues with Proton, or if you're pretending. The former implies you're just not following the latest news and updates in privacy and security, and you're out of touch. That calls into question your expertise.
The latter suggests you have an agenda to promote Proton for whatever reason (I would assume it's just because they pay you, which isn't nefarious but it shades your advice). Either way, that calls into question your objectivity.
If it is the latter, and Proton is a sponsor, it would be better to simply be transparent, acknowledge the issues and tow the company line. Playing dumb is a bad look.
What makes you think I’m the author of the video?
The fact that you posted it in the first person. Why wouldn't I think that?
It’s a cross-post from the author’s PeerTube channel.
Why wouldn't I assume you were the author cross posting it?
It’s the original title of the video.
Which you posted. So why wouldn't I assume you were the author?
So if someone posts a news article, you assume it’s the journalist?
I follow a lot of journalists on Mastadon, so yeah, that happens a lot.
Cool. Anyone you can recommend?
Cory Doctorow never disappoints.
What’s their handle?
I thought it was weird that you copy pasted all the ads...
It’s a cross-post from the author’s PeerTube channel.
