Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Paying for using a model hosted on someone else's computer is technically prostitution 😛

At least with self hosting if you really like that model you don't risk that tomorrow the ai Bros change the backend with a different model (gpt5) or raise prices

Its like seeing the creation as your child. As opposed of pygmalion creating a partner.

If you run two on the same machine so it's interacting with itself, is that some form of masturbation? If so, is running one (or both) in VMs like sitting on your hand until it goes numb for The Stranger?

By what logic?

Looking at it as birthing your own companion, totally. But if you were birthing a companion you'd have to raise it, train it, educate it, feed it, clothe it, form a relationship with it, then convice (or manipulate it) to love you.

I see AI companions as even more pathetic (and a lot less gross), honestly. Their masters want all the benefits of an actual human relationship without doing any of the work it demands. They want an echo machine that reaffirms they are valid and wanted, even though they are not. Everyone does not deserve to be loved. Everyone does not deserve to be wanted. These are things you earn and you will never be able to do with a corpo-trained techno-parrot.

Everyone deserves love. Maybe not the type they want, or from the person they want, but nobody deserves to be unloved.

Hard pass on that reality. I agree with the vibe of what you are saying, just def not the truth of it.

AI is not a person. It does not have thoughts, dreams, or emotions. It is not a sentient being of any sort.

It is not incest in any way.
