This man is dangerous. He gets zero points for doing the right thing.

I'm pissed they gave him immunity. This fucker deserves to fry. Hopefully he'll get disbarred for violating AC privilege.

[-] Metanoia@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

Yeah but he's on the show "whose country is it anyway?" Where the claims are made up and the points don't matter.

This is the one I was waiting for.

This motherfucker has all the goods and is gonna sing like Aretha Franklin.

[-] dhork@lemmy.world 21 points 1 year ago

Nobody sings like Aretha, fool!

I hope so, but I think he'll end up disappointing us all.

If he is in fact granted immunity, it will be for the whole shebang and he won't have a choice. Jack Smith won't give him a deal simply on the basis of his word. If he wants to be a cooperating witness he'll have to supply the goods and there will be a process of investigating and fact-checking and corroborating everything he says. Basically, there will be no backing out.

Immunity this high up on the food chain doesn't feel right to me. Maybe if they really don't think they can nail Trump without him. Maybe. But this guy was one of the most instrumental in the coup. I would have felt a lot better if it was a much reduced sentence but still jail time. Same with Powell.

[-] TheSanSabaSongbird 10 points 1 year ago

Yeah, sigh. That said, while I don't love it, if this is what it takes to take the orange bastard down for good, I'm all for it. It's just too important.

[-] AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Agreed it's the most important part. And it's going to have to be very well done clear cut evidence to make him face series repercussions, so I'm with that. But man I hate seeing these insurrectionists facing no significant punishment. People storming the capital are facing years in prison while the people who orchestrated it go free.

My cousin's husband is currently doing 5 years for his role in January 6, so I have a first-hand link to it all and agree with you about the apparent dichotomy.

That said, my cousin is definitely the black sheep in the family and while I did meet her husband once, and he seemed like a perfectly nice guy, she also refuses to admit that her mother, my aunt, died of COVID as opposed to a coincidental bout of pneumonia. It's fuckin' weird and the rest of my family doesn't really know what to make of it.

I mostly feel sorry for my uncle who is in his 80s and is now having to deal with this bullshit on the part of his daughter, when he should be chilling and enjoying his last years.

My wife has a family member who got deep into drugs years ago. She tried to help him, but he would lie to get money for drugs, take advantage of her, and didn't want help. I think of having a family member getting deep into the MAGA stuff as like that. Like you've not only lost them, but they become toxic. There's no way to convince them the conspiracies aren't real, and you end up just cutting them out of your life.

While trump is clearly the target, the fact that such key figures can still escape justice is a clear display of the two tiered justice system. Wtf America, we knew you were gross but come on, they ATTEMPTED A COUP.

[-] HoustonHenry@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

My only hope is that there's more to come with other lawsuits he's attached to

[-] Hello_there@kbin.social 20 points 1 year ago

We know he was actively complicit. Hope the plea is contingent on a conviction

[-] mateomaui@reddthat.com 18 points 1 year ago

Hell yeah, Trump is throwing ketchup at everything today.

[-] mateomaui@reddthat.com 12 points 1 year ago

Someone help me out, is Meadows still exposed in the GA case? I’m pretty sure he is. He’s not immune to everything being fired at him, right?

[-] RojoSanIchiban@lemmy.world 17 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

He is, assuming he isn't already finishing a plea deal with Willis. Meadows 100% deserves to go away for life with his co-conspirators, but at least he will be 80%+ of the nails in Trump's federal coffin with this immunity deal.

Bwahahaha!!!

This is too funny watching Trump's house of cards collapsing.

[-] someguy3@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 year ago

This sounds big.

Here’s the thing: I don’t think I can believe a word he says because I believe he’d say anything to save his own skin, but I also believe he wouldn’t have to lie to save his own skin and that he has plenty to dish to bury Trump, which is how he got full immunity.

I also don’t care I he’s lying if it lands Trump in jail. But I know he doesn’t have to.
