Rich men created the system. They’re doing absolutely fine. Patriarchy has always been about class, fundamentally.

Yep, which is a reason why 'patriarchy' is often a poor term for systems of power. The elites are elevated because they are wealthy, to a far greater extent than being elevated because they are male. Telling working class and impoverished men that the system is designed to benefit them is only going to push them towards right-wing populists like Trump who are selling fake solutions to their problems.

Almost as if just a certain class of men created the system.

patriarchy both elevates and victimizes men, just like how racism both elevates and victimizes whites

[–] belastend@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Absolutely, which is why this post makes even less sense.

you mean why the post makes so much sense ... it's literally pointing out the paradoxical situation of patriarchy - that it victimizes the same class it simultaneously elevates to create the hierarchy in the first place, which is crazy

But again, the class of men who invented this game and keeps reinventing is not the class currently failing. So why equate them.

who said we are? feminism doesn't equate all men as equally privileged nor equally guilty, that's just a myth - feminism to the contrary is pointing out the way patriarchy victimizes men and women, and the way a minority of men perpetuate the violence and system of patriarchy.

I am not saying you are. This meme is. And I most definitely agree with your definition of feminism.

It's just that this meme strikes me as having an undertone of "look at these stupid men, they can't even rig the game right". Which isn't a popular opinion in real feminist circles (as far as I can tell) but a popular one in certain extremely online versions of feminism.

No, the current class society is dominated and shaped by the bourgeois (business owners/capitalists) and not some evil collective gender cabal. It's in the interests of this ruling class to oppress women, given how they can pay them less, have them stay at home raising children for free via unpaid labor who them grow up to being workers to have surplus value extracted from, and therefore exploited in the future. These future workers can be both men and women, and they're getting fisted regardless of one's gender.

Removing this class element from women's struggle and making it solely about one's gender is genuinely harmful, as it makes others blind to the true cause of the oppression.

Well, there kind of is an evil collective gender cabal, but it's a gender that has an entire drawer of cuff links. Normal cis men are just minions sometimes.

this is a cartoon understanding of partriarchy

Where exactly are men falling behind?

[–] wesker@lemmy.sdf.org 48 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

OP drank the koolaid that pits genders against each other.

Education, homelessness, incarceration, life expectancy, mental heath, suicide, addiction, loneliness

[–] I_Has_A_Hat@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

And women are doing better at these things?

[–] Samskara@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

Statistically yes, women do much better on these.

Plus women have a lot of struggles men don't

[–] Matriks404@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Good point.

Rush Limbaugh once held up two newspaper clippings side by side - in one, women wanted to go topless downtown, in the other women were complaining about men staring at them. He made funny faces and asked, "Why can't these women make up their minds???" Cuz they're not the same women, dipshit. Anyway, kinda the same concept.

WHAT!?!

you are telling me women aren't a hivemind????
