Guess this means that air travel is banned over Louisiana from now on?

[–] jagged_circle@feddit.nl 4 points 3 days ago

No. Just 99%

Electric planes and drones should be fine.

Honestly it'll greatly reduce GHG contributions to the climate catastrophe. I hope it passes.

America really is a stupid country...

Unfortunately, our SE region is largely a wonderful example of self-sabotaging idiots

Your red states are bizarre

Your blue states are also fucking weird, once you are out of the big centres, they may as well be Louisiana

Now ask them what they think chemtrails mean

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

This gets dumber the more I read. Usually I put this kinda shit down to pandering to ignorant voters.

“(Do you see them) once a week?” asked State Rep. C. Denise Marcelle (D-Baton Rouge).

“At least, yes—from my house all the way to the Capitol. So when you look up in the air, you look, watch for the big white lines across the sky,” Coates said.

Nope. They're honestly that dumb.

Another amendment removed any penalties for violators. Coates said she wants state agencies to understand chemtrails better before enforcement measures are considered.

You've got to be fucking with me.

I like this legislation. It should ban pesticides from being released from planes, right? Because that shit causes birth defects in farm workers

And if it's broad enough to ban all chemicals emitted from planes, it should also ban all ICE and jet engine planes, which is a huge benefit for the climate (carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, etc) and should encourage investment in high speed rail

Let’s see your train cross the Pacific or Atlantic.

Passenger boats are far worse for the environment than passenger planes.

[–] jagged_circle@feddit.nl 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Wow. You need to learn a bit about climate science.

[–] ByteSorcerer@beehaw.org 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

During long-haul flights (which is the case for trans-atlantic flights), planes average about 100g CO2 per passenger-kilometer.

Ocean-worthy passenger ships are frequently in excess of 200g CO2 per passenger-kilometer for basic passenger transport vessels. Cruise ships are much worse even, frequently emitting >400g CO2 per passenger-kilometer.

So, how would boats be better for crossing the Atlantic?

If you think co2 is the only GHG, you're in for a world of pain. Many other GHGs are emitted, and some (namely nitrogen oxides) especially damaging when burned at a high altitude.

Are you not reading climate science? Or are you only read airline company propaganda?

[–] ByteSorcerer@beehaw.org 2 points 3 days ago

Oh sure I'm "reading airline propaganda".

If you want to claim any counter-argument is some evil company's propaganda, then please go back to your echo chamber and I am no longer interested in discussing with you. Goodbye.
