Discussion Community for fellow Marxist-Leninists and other Marxists.

Rules for /c/communism

Rules that visitors must follow to participate. May be used as reasons to report or ban.

  1. No non-marxists

This subreddit is here to facilitate discussion between marxists.

There are other communities aimed at helping along new communists. This community isn't here to convert naysayers to marxism.

If you are a member of the police, armed forces, or any other part of the repressive state apparatus of capitalist nations, you will be banned.

  1. No oppressive language

Do not attempt to justify your use of oppressive language.

Doing this will almost assuredly result in a ban. Accept the criticism in a principled manner, edit your post or comment accordingly, and move on, learning from your mistake.

We believe that speech, like everything else, has a class character, and that some speech can be oppressive. This is why speech that is patriarchal, white supremacist, cissupremacist, homophobic, ableist, or otherwise oppressive is banned.

TERF is not a slur.

  1. No low quality or off-topic posts

Posts that are low-effort or otherwise irrelevant will be removed.

This is not a place to engage in meta-drama or discuss random reactionaries on lemmy or anywhere else.

This includes memes and circlejerking.

This includes most images, such as random books or memorabilia you found.

We ask that amerikan posters refrain from posting about US bourgeois politics. The rest of the world really doesn’t care that much.

  1. No basic questions about marxism

Posts asking entry-level questions will be removed.

Questions like “What is Maoism?” or “Why do Stalinists believe what they do?” will be removed, as they are not the focus on this forum.

  1. No sectarianism

Marxists of all tendencies are welcome here.

Refrain from sectarianism, defined here as unprincipled criticism. Posts trash-talking a certain tendency or marxist figure will be removed. Circlejerking, throwing insults around, and other pettiness is unacceptable.

If criticisms must be made, make them in a principled manner, applying Marxist analysis.

The goal of this subreddit is the accretion of theory and knowledge and the promotion of quality discussion and criticism.

It's three words, alright, but the first word are mis-spelled. I think it starts with a "K".. "Ki" ..something ?

The rich deserve worse than heavy taxation.

$7.25 went into effect in 2009. Not criticizing the meme, just noting.

[–] barneypiccolo@lemm.ee 1 points 26 minutes ago

The Federal Minimum Wage has been increased twice since 1997, for a total of $2.10.

They got me until the last line

[–] ThermonuclearEgg@hexbear.net 9 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I was sure it said eat the rich, which presumably involves burning them for calories

[–] TheWolfOfSouthEnd@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 7 hours ago (3 children)

I don’t think that they’d taste very nice, and I’m veggie. Can we burn them as a source of fuel?

[–] barneypiccolo@lemm.ee 2 points 25 minutes ago

They'll grind up into a nice paste. Add herbs and spices, and pour them over pasta.

[–] ThermonuclearEgg@hexbear.net 5 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

Of course, it's more important that they be eaten in a metaphorical sense. They're probably full of microplastics.

However, I think eating them literally is still ethical and vegan

They are usually crusty old men so it counts as fossil fuels though.

tax them with every second of stolen labor from other people’s lives and take it out of their own

unfortunately that would mean all of them would be summarily executed. unfortunately.

[–] GenderIsOpSec@hexbear.net 27 points 14 hours ago

tax? no no no i have a...different idea in mind.

[–] SlayGuevara@lemmygrad.ml 30 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah but Bill Gates is going to give away his multi billion fortune before his death you know! On his own terms and conditions! There are good billionaires you know!

[–] 666@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

I think we can fit in an exception. "good" billionaires don't get executed and are sent to live on penal colonies in space under strict supervision with 10 hour work days and no vacation or sick-time. Rest are mulched.

Even then, Bill Gates ain't a good billionaire. The amount of damage he has done doesn't even compare to the money he gives away after death.

[–] Flyberius@hexbear.net 30 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Tax is a euphemism for shoot, right?

[–] trashxeos@lemmygrad.ml 16 points 15 hours ago

Shoot is a euphemism for feed into a tortuously slow wood chipper or industrial meat grinder, right?

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 33 points 16 hours ago (1 children)
[–] ComRed2@hexbear.net 15 points 14 hours ago

We're beyond the mere concept of taxation for these people. What needs to be done to the rich involves a video game where one uses blocks to build stuff.

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 18 points 16 hours ago
[–] Kawasaki@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

It's beyond me how the majority of people aren't yearning for a change in the world, especially as of late and the obvious growing inequalities. Where is their rage? Where is the violent justice? Revolution! Revolution!

[–] Flyberius@hexbear.net 12 points 12 hours ago

Most people are insanely historically and politically ignorant. It's depressing

Why would we Tax Luigi?

[–] andybytes@programming.dev 6 points 15 hours ago

I have such frustrations with people that just argue about the little things. And the little things aren't little things, but it's like the cart before the horse. Like we don't have leverage, you know? We don't have ground to stand on. So why argue about things? Like what about material conditions? Your ability to just fucking live? I mean, we are at a point now in history where it blows my mind that we haven't revolted by now.

[–] Dialectical_Idealist@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago) (1 children)

Should compare the wealth of billionaires to the wealth of the middle and lower class. The point still holds true but people can't accuse you of comparing apples to oranges.

[–] chesmotorcycle@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 7 hours ago

Or better, make it our net wealth, which is negative because it includes debt.
