An unofficial chapter of the popular Dull Men's Club.

https://dullmensclub.com/

1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.

2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.

3. Avoid repetitive topics.

4. This is not a search engine or advice forum.
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions, identify objects or get advice. We accept very few questions, and they must be over topics much more difficult than what is easily discoverable with a search. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

6. Not hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.

7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

8. All polls must have an "Africa, by Toto" option. Why? Because we hear the drums echoing tonight.

When I read "long consumables", I was half-expecting to see a 6' party sub or something 😂

Oh man, that's the kind of cargo I'm talking about.

Maybe stupid question : how do you fix the wood on the car body?

There's tie-down loops on the side of the bed. I just have big bolts that go thru the loop and screw directly into the ends of the horizontal 2x4s of the storage shelve. It's attached in three points.

I too am curious about this

As an electrician, I respect it. Make your work vehicle work for you as much as possible.

Please don't look in the back of my van, it's a nightmare <3

My old Electrician Boss was like this. Shit randomly thrown anywhere in the truck cab and bed. I started organizing it with recycle totes. But a few jobs later it would be a disaster again. He didn't quite realize that saving 30 seconds tossing stuff anywhere when packing up, turned to 5 minutes searching for that item when on site.

Yeah we're one way or the other, either the van is pristine or it's piled full of shit. No in-between lol

I've been considering a similar setup for overlanding. I just need to set it up in a way that the whole kit is removable, but I can still strap it down to the tie down points in my 4Runner.

This setup is designed in a way that it can be quickly removed as well. The thing with the drawers is just held down with a single ratchet strap. Once you remove that it slides right out. The shelve on the other hand is held down with 3 bolts attached to the tie down points on the side of the bed. This can all be taken out in around 10 minutes.

Love that extra long extension for your drill

[–] Opinionhaver@feddit.uk 3 points 16 hours ago

Yeah, I only have my standard bit holder and a long ass one. Too much is always enough is my motto.

Nice. I'm sure it makes a big difference, keeping stuff out of the way.

Though I don't know that I'd trust those nails/screws to handle the dynamic loads of a vehicle. I'd want the vertical supports directly under loads, so the fasteners just keep things together.

A friend made a ply tray on small ball rollers for stuff up in the front. He puts toolboxes on it, the tray has a lip so they stay in place, and he uses a piece of cord to pull it out. Ingenious. But I really like those drawers of yours.

It's exactly the lenght of the bed so once the tailgate is closed it doesn't get to move front or back. The horizontal 2x4's have big bolts screwed into them thru 3 tie-down points on the side of the bed. Only screws holding any weight here are the ones going thru the vertical supports into the ends of the 2x4's. As long as I don't roll the truck I'm relatively confident that it'll stay in place just fine.
