The only things that carries over are your unlocked map and altars of lilith. The renown you have in seasonal from the start is the renown unlocked from your altars of lilith.

Yeah, I was totally of the same understanding, thought I'd been ripped off, but then realised it said it was applied to all characters on the same realm.
In regards to the question about skill points, you have to click the button to claim the skill points/potions on the renown page
Exploration and Altars only. If you did all of them for each region you should be at/around level 3 renown for each region.
