No, sad day. :(

It was one of the better video hosts.

@SomeGuy69@lemmy.world Yep! And their content policies are not crazy and their moderators are not trigger happy like YouTube's. ๐Ÿ˜…

Sad day indeed.

I maybe saw an occasional video with them but never even open an account with them. I wonder why they're shutting down now..

@abff08f4813c@j4vcdedmiokf56h3ho4t62mlku.srv.us Probably funds, at least it's the usual reason.

Then again, they survived that long side-by-side with a behemoth that is YouTube, it is indeed curious why they're shutting down now.

Maybe someone could write a script to export channels and videos to the PeerTube server of the channel owner's choice?

The same thing for be done for YouTube, Slimeo, BitChute, and other centralised video hosting sites. Creating a multi-host video channel export app. Enforcement of EU DMA on said hosts could make this easier.

@strypey @youronlyone peertube has some pretty decent import tools already but I'm not sure if they'd work well in this case

@strypey @youronlyone they are designed around youtube mainly but I have never tried with any other platform

๐Ÿค” Yes, I think the default that comes with each installation is the YT importer. Maybe #PeerTube can quickly(?) release a Veoh importer? This is a good opportunity for PeerTube, taking over the space/market Veoh will leave behind.

How about it @peertube@framapiaf.org?

Someone could always file an issue asking this here;
