Today #Mozilla announced that Mozilla Social is closing on 2024-12-17. #DidYouKnow that this was their 2nd public #Fediverse instance?

  • 2010-02-22: launch

@youronlyone@c.im I didn't. Any resources that supports what you said? Did Fediverse even existed back in 2010? Activity Pub in 2010? I highly doubt that.

Interesting. So fediverse the term was only coined (2012) after the first instance by Mozilla was shut down (and it seems that there were many protocol changes in between).

And also ActivityPub was a few years in the future when the term was coined (2014 being the first mention).

@abff08f4813c@j4vcdedmiokf56h3ho4t62mlku.srv.us Yep! That's correct! The father of the Fediverse was Evan Prodromou. He sent the first message in 2008. Later, #identiverse was coined before it eventually became known as the #Fediverse.
