It's probably because it hits very close to the extreme-right talking point that trans women are only trans because they want to sneak into the women's toilet or win at sports. People are like "not this shit again 🤦".
Though I think banning trans women from changing rooms is like misgendering them which is mean.
I'd like to make it clear that I don't think the issue a "sneaky perv" one. I think the issue is more along the lines of people who haven't wholly transitioned yet getting fully nude along sideo females who may quite understandably imo feel insecure getting naked in the presence of someone possibly much bigger and stronger than them with the genetalia of the opposite sex.
I think it is a very tough problem and that there is no simple solution that will please everyone, I also understand how upsetting and divisive the issue is.
Since I can't envisage a solution that will please everyone I think the next best solution will be to find a solution that pleases the maximum amount of people possible and I'm not going to pretend that I have that answer. But I'm also not going to pretend that it's not an issue or that we don't need to talk about it as a whole society.
I think one possible solution (inb4: I already know it's not ideal) would be to introduce a third changing room, a "no judgement" zone that can be used by all.
