It was pretty close, I remember seeing both for sale at the same time, and starting about the same time, and 2000 persisting longer, so I just assumed different markets or something.
I guess MS expected that there would be people who'll need or prefer a DOS-based Windows.
But ME was so unstable that they used 98SE.
Mmmmmmm but also I was literally a child so maybe defer to anyone else's info here.
